new Kia coupe

Kia is planning to launch a sporty front-wheel-drive coupé within the next two years, according to a senior Korean source. The Korean firm plans to have a car in every major sector within the next five years, and a sports coupé, which would be based on the Cee’d platform, is currently in the early stages of development. “At the moment we’re concentrating on further establishing the brand as a serious player in the UK,” the source told Autocar, “but we’ve got ambitious plans for the future.” The new coupé is likely to be displayed at a motor show within the next 18 months, possibly at Paris next autumn or at Detroit in early 2011. Kia’s Kee concept from 2007 hints at a possible design direction the production Kia coupé may take. The car has been designed by Kia’s European design chief, Peter Schreyer, and it is said to have met with approval from top Korean executives. Sister firm Hyundai has confirmed its intentions to put the Veloster concept — a front-wheel-drive coupé based on the i30 — into production within the next two years. The Kia coupé would be priced between £15,000 and £20,000 as a direct rival to the Veloster and to undercut the Peugeot RCZ and Audi TT http://www.autocar.co.uk/contentImag.../797744516.jpg |
What you guys think? Front looks decent and it's small and low so that I like. Rear definitely looks strange from this angle though.
Are we seeing more and more asian car manufacturers making small lightweight coupes? I hope so!! |
I think it looks pretty ugly =/
Good thing it's still a concept. |
I think it's too early to really say much about it. But... as is... it's pretty ugly. Makes me think of a mechanical wasp.

That car looks very elementary. The shapes are very basic with not much thought put into them. As a concept its not exciting and as a road car it lacks the details that any designer worth his salt should be putting into his work. The proportions are all wrong as well, it seems to look more like a german roadster then a compact coupe.
If this car is supposed to go against the Toyobaru cars, then they will be in for a rude awakening :) |
I like that front end. Very squared off. Very distinct. No, it's not pretty, but neither is a bulldog, and I like those, too. :D
For me, it actually evokes images of the old Celica front end... http://www.cargurus.com/images/2008/...pic-29833.jpeg |
It's ok. Way concept looking though, not like the FT-86 which looks like it could be ready for production tomorrow (c'mon Toyota! :D).
Good to see the koreans are trying to make sports coupes though and not SUVs and SAVs like everyone is obsessed with. |
It's not hideous, but they're at least 10 years too late for a "sporty FF"...

Lol looks like it's gonna suck me up, like a vacuum!
