Carbon fiber intake
 

Is anyone making a carbon fiber intake at the moment? I've seen one custom CF intake for Sema show (I think it was AIRAID and I think Perrin as well) but not sure who exactly.

I would like to see some pictures if possible.

Syms makes a cf intake duct but it doesn't replace the air box. It's also 1k+

like a whale penis? IMO CF would be too much money.

I dont think CF is priced that much. The process of making one is expensive (well, depending on the method) not the actual parts. I will do some CF wrapping so I might just get the silicone tube and wrap it in CF. Extra layer of protection never hurt anyone!

I know CF is not heat conductor at all so it might help with the heat under the hood for an intake.

I was thinking about getting the AVO intake and wrapping it in CF. A bit worried about the resin though, should that be exposed to high temps?

Define high temperatures! Once is cured the resin should be fine. A good 105 and 206 hardner should be just fine. A clear coat will protect the resin from going yellow as well. The carbon fiber will not lose its integrity and is the best heat protector out there. At 3500 degrees celsius it will melt. At about 200 degrees celsius the resin will start losing its integrity (up to 10-20% - you cant see it or feel it) but it will not cause the the CF to colapse or even start burning. I dont think the engine bay even reaches 100 (on average is about 70-80) but there are cases when it could reach that temperature. Nevertheless, CF intake it would be as good as it gets. Now, that what I am going to do with a Zeta silicone pipe, which we all know is quite good when it comes to heat protection (silicone that is). A layer or two of CF will keep things nice and clean in the engine bay!

Fake carbon fibre wrap makes me sad. Making something heavier so that it looks lighter :thumbsup:

The amount of weight cf adds to a skinned part is insignificant.
