Best Looking Affordable and Practical Cars = Ford?
VEHICLE STYLING ONLY - nothing else considered
Right now in the year 2013 I would argue that the best looking affordable vehicle lineup belongs to Ford (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion). For the affordable car sector nothing else (imho) is close to having as attractive, practical, and affordable cars. Here is my list of best looking car lineup for the affordable car sector. Sports cars are excluded, performance is not taken into consideration, and the sub brands are left out. Your thoughts? 1. Ford (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion) 2. Hyundai (Sonata, Elantra, Veloster) 3. Dodge (Charger, Dart) Most boring - the cars below scream bland and boring appliance to me in terms of styling. Chevy (Sonic, Malibu, Cruze) Volkswagen (Jetta, Passat, Golf) Toyota (Yaris, Corolla, Camry, Matrix) Honda (Civic, Accord) Subaru (Impreza, Legacy) |
I'll play
1. Honda 2. Subaru 3. Ford |
Never been a fan of hybrids but I like the concept of the Volt and that Cmax is lookin' good to me. As a disclaimer I drive 130 miles a day. It'd be nice if the first 40 of those were all electric the remaining 90 were at 45mpg.

Strictly based on look, I'll give that to the Koreans, the KIA cars looks very good for what you pay for them. Toyota and Honda's are very bland as usual...even Honda knows it with their emergency 2013 civic redesign. Fords are very nice looking but I still like the Kia's / Hyundai's better. Subaru's are nice but nothing exceptionnal. Nissan's cheap offerings are pretty ugly (sentra and versa).
Chrysler and Chevy's designs are all over the place...though I like the cruze but it's still pretty conservative. My $0.02 |
I will be perfectly honest here, I havent seen anything from any manufacturer thats affordable and good looking. Cars have been increasingly ugly year to year and I blame the Civic for all of it. Honda came out with a cheap ugly car that made decent gas mileage and people bought them by the millions. People can blame American companies for the ugliest cars but the trend now seems to be fuel economy first design second. I'll save my money and buy something a little more expensive than buy any of the affordable cars...unless you lump my FRS in there.

the new chevy's are quite nice. but gosh anything pre 2012-13 is fugly. ford's styling is great. we sell hyundai's and they are really nice. we also sell toyota and they still are bland and honda is even worse. kia is great. dodge lose. subaru wins.

ford -focus/'13 fusion
toyota- camry/'13 scion tc honda-ugly nissan-ugly kia/hyundai-genesis chevy-'14 impala/gmc terrain chrysler-charger/dart subaru-brz mitsubishi-fail VW-'13 jetta thats kind of it in a nutshell.... |
I agree that Honda (and Toyota) started the bland trend. At least the 'Merican cars finally ended their belief that cheap cars (i.e. compacts and sub-compacts) should be piles of :poop: and started making them competitive.

So does the new impala coming out.. Though I'd love to have the impala interior in the fusions body.. My mom has a new sportage and I was surprised with the whole thing until I drove it and the lack of power.. But that couldve been changed with a V6.. Otherwise the styling of it and the new optima look really nice... I love the maxima, but that's pushing the affordability part, the new Altima is a step up but not quite there.. |

Ugly: http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/o/d/2/13fusion_side.jpg If this somehow makes it to production not too shabby: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dcf8bgHapk...Carscoop11.jpg Hell i don't even like the new BMW's and Audi's. Bland seems to be the flavor of this generation of cars. At least when you can spend $50k+ there's cars worth looking at and wanting to drive. If a car blends in with the background of other bland, featureless cars then it's just that...bland and featureless. It will definitely be interesting to see what Nissan and Mazda have coming up in response to the overwhelming reaction to the FRS/BRZ and who knows maybe some American car company will dust off the creativity and make a desireable sports car under $26k that isn't just a low power version of another car. Also....Blech!:barf: http://media.caranddriver.com/images...-s-429x262.jpg So strange that that car and the new Viper are technically the same brand...guess they spent all the creativity on the Viper and just copy/pasted the Jetta with different lights for the Dart.... I don't understand how anyone can like the styling of Audi or BMW. The all look like bland and boring. I do have a soft sport for the A5 and 6 series (couple only), but that is it.

I would say...
1. Hyundai 2. Ford 3. Nissan |

The Koreans are taking the Japanese to style school right now, that's for sure! One this is for sure, the domestic auto industry almost completely failing was the best thing to happen to it. Period. All have better small car (and soon medium car) offerings than any have had ever. |
Gm small cars are still junk
|
I'll bite...
Most exciting visual line up: 1. Hyundai 2. Kia 3. Audi 4. Suzuki, yes, suzuki, even though they no longer sell in the US, their styling cues have been consistantly unique and have become very very good looking. Anything beyond that and were getting into price ranges that exceed ford and gm's ability. The most boring lineups have been consistantly ford, gm, and dodge coming in last place. Thank god they seperated the viper from the dodge badge. The only saving grace for dodge right now is the challenger, and thats purely aesthetics. |
