When do you reset the Avg MPG?

Kinda random but, I'm just curious how often to people reset the Average MPG calculator in their car? Every fill up, every month, never?

I wish the car had a perpetual ave mpg that showed the average for the life of the car, but it doesn't so I have never reset mine so far. I reset it right before I pulled it off the lot and never since. After 7500+ miles according to the car computer my Avg MPG is 31.4 .... I do the math every time I fill up gas to see each tank so I have a mental note and it's usually between 28-33, but I'm just curious what other people do.

I thought about doing it after the break in, since driving habits may change after that, but didn't.

My Nexus 7 apps track between fillups, etc, so no need.

I've never reset the B tripmeter, because I'm still amused that my odometer and tripmeter are the same value even with 4 digits.

SQUIRREL!

I normally would have never touched the reset button, but I was curious after a while. Well, before, I had about 3000 miles and the computer was averaging around 28.1 MPG. I've been resetting it every time I get gas and I'm lucky if I break 26 MPG per fill up, but it seems to stay within better range of what I get with fuelly.com.

I won't reset it, at least not intentionally. I calculate mileage by tankful and like to compare the two. I never reset the computer on my last vehicle over 289K miles. It had a lot more numbers in it (avg speed, fuel consumption, etc) so it was nice to have the lifetime numbers.

Personally I don't pay attention to it.

Stupid question but,How do you reset the avg mpg? I tried holding down the Same button to rest the mileage but no dice.

Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.

I reset it after every fill up, not sure why since I don't really pay any attention to it. LOL

One resets with the ODO button, one with the other button below that, can not recall what is on it. It changes what is displayed. Cycle to it, then hold it down.

I've never reset mine either. I write down the amount of fuel put into the car, miles since last fuel up, current mileage, etc. and put it on my Fuelly in my sig. That does the math for me.

Curse you winter months and your long idles to de-ice the windows. Killing my MPG. :(

I rest both trip and mpg every fill up. Just habit. I do wish the car had miles to empty like most cars do that have mpg displays.

Mines sitting about 27 i get about 29 on long trips.

eljefe 01-08-2013 01:54 PM

mine resets when i disconnect the battery. other than that i dont really ever reset it.

Im struggling to break 23.8mpg...

I sit in traffic every day so that doesnt help.

Reset every tank full, then compare the car's numbers with the math. I also track via an ap on my iPhone.

On long trips, I reset A at each tankful, but leave B for the whole trip.
