ticking noise?

This is my first car with a boxer motor, i have never owned a subaru or anything.

So i bought my scion frs, brand new, from the dealer with about 120 miles on it. She now has about 1600 miles on it, but i didnt notice too much until about 500 miles or so?

Well anyways, i notice ticking noise. just loud enough to annoy me, since it being a brand new car,

sounds like a loud valve ticking noise, or lifter noise?

i have heard that it is normal for subaru boxer motors to make that lifter/ticking noise at idle...

Anyone know anything about this? maybe could give me an advice??

I swear the other FRS at the dealer did not make this noise, but it is starting to bug me. i dont want to have bought a brand new car and not even 1k miles and the engine is already acting up...

That's just normal operating noise.

The noise comes from the high pressure fuel pump and is normal.

Sounds like your direct injection system. You think that's bad, go pop the hood of a honda. Sounds like a type writer.

you can always take it to the dealer and have them take a listen, but I can tell you this is my first subaru and these engines are LOUD!! I'm coming from a Nissan 3L V6 which purred like a kitten.

I wonder if the EDM/JDM models, with the extra hood insulation section, are as loud as the USDM cars in this respect.

can you hear it most at 2-3k rpm in 3rd/4th gears when under load (going up a hill for example)
cuz that's what i have... dealership agreed to change my high pressure furl pump, but i think its the lifters... gonna have them dismantle the whole engine till they fix it

Yes it sucks but that is the high pressure fuel pump making that sound. I myself have that problem and I work at Toyota. Their is a TSB for the first few production models of FR-S/BRZ but even this newer pump makes a noise you would wanna get rid of. For now their is no fix to take away the normal chirping sound. Worse part about that is imo it makes me feel like I'm driving an older car and anyone standing close enough to hear it would think the cars a POS! They are working on it though.

how hard did you drive it in the break-in period?

I added some damplifier pro under to the hood under the insulation on the front half and it does seem a bit quieter both outside and in the cabin. if i could get a bigger insulation panel i'd do the whole hood.

Its noise is coming from direct injection system. Have you ever heard of A4's 2.0T FSI engine? That engine sounds like a diesel, completely normal.

sorry to break it to you but a car that comes with 120 miles on it isn't exactly brand new. Those 120 miles is probably going to be the harshest 120 miles that your car will ever see. That little baby is probably beat to the ground and flipped over and beat again during that 120 miles driven by people who doesn't give a crap about your car.

I agree. I bought mine with 7 miles on it and I was about 4 of those. I wouldn't have taken a care with more than 20 because you know it was abused hard for those test drives..
