CEL and Slip Light

Picked up my BRZ mid October and have been experiencing the idle dip issue from around the 600 km mark. (Most notably after brisk-ish acceleration and braking, whilst still keeping revs below 4000, for running in)

Vehicle would idle ok if I switched it off and restarted.

Just before xmas the CEL and slip light came on (1100 km) and I booked a service for today. Took it easy on the way down for service and vehicle stalled as I stopped to reverse into a parking bay.

Have to say I am really impressed with my local Subaru guys, had only been back at work for a couple of hours and they called for me to collect my car.

Service manager said they have the issue sorted now, with some reprogramming of the ECU.

He seemed to think that a lot of the issues were with Toyota guys attempting to use the Toyota diagnostic equipment when they need the Subaru gear and that there was no need to replace ECU's or an engine.

Have to say I was concerned with this issue affecting our cars.

Not any more!

Flew up to the top of a local range and back down again to celebrate!

I'm not having the issue but i have also asked my Toyota service guys to reflash my ecu when it goes in to get its service in a couple weeks.

Lol at getting engin replaced when they just needed the right diag tool!

Good idea, hopefully they will re-flash all vehicles when they are in for service and we won't have this cloud over our cars.

Bought a Toyota Lexcen (VN) in '89 and took it Toyota, ONCE!

Although that was a long time ago.

Yes I did, at least until it was out of warrantee.

The toyota service guys treated it as inferior to their product, which I guess in some ways it was, though I put 330,000 km on it in 4 years with no issues.

ahhh the leap frog ... VN was awesome fun car...

I remember putting it in 2nd gear on the auto, but holding it back a little would keep it in 1st gear, then release the gear stick when u want it to shift to 2nd and it would kick into 2nd gear very quick, resulting in nice fishy 2nds in an auto... . :burnrubber:

ohhh i feel old now..

Ah, the good old days. Never learnt that technique but used to manually kick the box down all the time.

VN - VS were a good series.

So i had a bit of an idle issue last night ...

6000km ... manual

Car was warm... driving slow and relaxed. Stopped at the lights and the Idle was just barely HUNTING.... 500-650rpm up and down, up and down... Switch the air con on and the revs raised another 100rpm but it was still hunting. Turned the car off and back on and it went away...

Does this issue affect AT versions of the car, or MT only?

With mine the issue was far more noticeable after a session of brisk acceleration and braking. Imagine very low revs and violent shaking wouldn't do the motor any good.

Recommend giving your Toyota service people a call and registering the issue with them. Ask the service manager if they are up to speed with the ECU re-flash.

My Subaru guy said they are expecting more cars in with the issue.

Would expect they would re-flash when the vehicles come in for service if they haven't been in beforehand.
