Honda MTF 06 = awesome shifts!!
Ever since delivery, my brz has had pretty average shifts especially on the 1-2 change where it was particularly gratey. This was even more noticable when cold, where it would be difficult to select 2nd.
So I decided to try some lighter oils. First off, I tried some castrol vmx-m 75w-85 GL4. This gave a noticeable improvement, although it was still gratey when cold. Next I tried some Honda MTF 06 75w-80 GL4. All I can say is WOW!!!, this is how I always imagined the shift quality of this car to be!! Whether hot or cold the shifts are just awesome, and the gearbox is quieter as well with less shifter buzz at high rpm. I got the lube from honda for $16 per 1litre bottle. I got 5 of these so I could do a fill and drive it for a couple of hours and then dump it. This gets all of the old oil out for the final fill. So definately try this fluid if you're having any manual trans shifting issues. Or if you just want the best shift possible:happyanim: |

honda fluid is a semi synth, which is why I went Pentosin,(full synth) both are similar, tho, enjoy it!

And I prefer a non-fully-syn MTF both for DD and Racing.
Ironically I suspected the factory fill was the same oil as Honda MTF (USA) but this was only a suspicion but your post makes me doubt that now. I'd like to get a bottle of the USA MTF, MTF-06 and the BRZ factory fill and send them to the lab. EDIT: I've never seen MTF-06, only the water thin MTF we get in the States. |

The factory fill oil definately wasn't as thin as mtf-06 and shifts no where near as well either! |
