NSW rego sticker. Gone.

Just thought I'd put a reminder out.

NSW rego stickers are not needed to be displayed as of Jan 1st 2013.

Just gave my car a wash. How sweet it was to peal off that ugly sticker.

SA has had this for about a year and it is bs.

It is so easy to forget to register your car. They have also introduced to periods of which you can pay for your rego. 3 Months and 1 year. Before this move it was 3, 6, 9, and 12. I used to do 6 as it wasn't a massive hit in the bank and also kept it off my mind for a bit.

Now I started doing 3 months and my reminder notice comes in about a month and half later. So you forget about it. And bam. Lucky my new car came with 1 year.
The fines of driving an unregistered vehicle are insade. There is NO lenancy with this system. I know four people that have been done by this already, with about $1000 fines.

Stickers may be ugly. And I was rejoicing when they where removed. Now I want them back. (and especially want the 6 month option back!)

Im leasing my 86, so I don't have to be reminded.

Keep the renewal papers in a plastic sleeve on the dash board in the car and you wont forget.

I know what your saying, I usually leave it til the 2nd last day on my other car.

Devie 01-03-2013 12:42 AM

Well the problem with leaving the renewal notice in your car is that, it carries the transfer ownership details on the back of them.
No way in hell I am leaving that in my car!

I just got used to the stickers. It has a big 3 on it. Oh yep need to register next month. Easy. Sure someone could easily say just put a big number 3 on it yourself. Well, no. When you have to do something, you just do it. If you dont have to, you wont (for the most part). Like wearing a bike helmet or seat belts. I'm glad that we have to. I probably wouldn't otherwise.

WA has had it for a year or so now. I like it. Saves messing around with all that sticky crap each 12 months.

I don't get why people say they forget to pay their rego. They still send you a bill in the mail to pay your rego. Do people forget to pay their gas, watar and electricity bills as well? :-)

Devie 01-03-2013 12:48 AM

Yep. They send reminders. :)

actually it's more like 3years now. ;)

Also even though you get sent the payment slip there is a chance it will get lost in the mail. It happened to me and I only realised I hadn't payed it when I got a notice to hand in the plates 3months after it was due...

For WA people you can also get an SMS or email reminder:

Stickers are great for making sure plates on the car are actually from the car. Friend of mine used to work at a petrol station and they caught heaps of people using stolen plates by reading the sticker with binoculars.

We still have stickers in VIC.

Panman 01-03-2013 06:21 AM

Still mandatory in Qld.

MACCAA 01-03-2013 08:07 AM

Can't see why you'd "forget" to register your car.
Apart from the RTA sending you a bill, don't you get a Green Slip reminder as well???
Cheers
Len
