FR-S Noobie Q's

Being that this is my 1st manual I have some noob questions.

Which is the best RPM to shift at for best mpg?

Which is best RPM to maximize speed?

And

What speakers to a want to replace before getting an amp / subs / headunit.

Like, by replacing tweeters? on the front dashboard would that clear up sound or should whole thing be done in 1 shot?

Phone calls / radios ect just sound unclear for me

THANKS :happy0180:

As for the radio part. I'd say do it all in one shot if you have the money for it. Saves on install charges. And I think hurtz is a great brand for speakers.

Make sure your radio is in FR-S mode. Mine was in tC mode when I got it. Changing the mode improved the sound. I have the stock head unit.

As for the shifting thing, mileage wise I think gradual acceleration makes a big diff. Rpm prob around 3500? Too low & you lug the engine which won't be efficient.
For speed you can take it all they way to redline. Torque doesn't really come alive till past 5k, my shift light is set at 6900, past that the torque & power start tapering.

You can program the car to indicate shift points. However, it is safe to shift as long as the engine doesn't lug when you shift into the next gear. I would say lugging happens when you are under 1,800 rpm.

This video shows you how to set the shift light/economy driving shift arrow:

The best RPM to maximize speed is all of them.

I find mine shifts best at about 3250. 3500 and the gears feel stiff to shift. As for the speakers defenatly just do them all at once.

i remember driving stick for the first time...same day i bought my DC2.. lol..i learned on the way home lol stalling:burnrubber: i just went for it:bellyroll: im a fast learner :bonk: next day i was double clutching/heel toe shifting/rev matching :burnrubber:..

you can shift at 3k to save mpg... but once you get use to a stick shift say bye bye to mpg:burnrubber: unless you let grandmother drive it:lol: granny shifting .. you will get the hang of it soon

as for replacing the speakers get the 3 in 1 that has mid/high/low with built in tweeters.. and for the radio get something that has equalizers settings and of course a iphone/android compatible/bluetooth..no one uses CDs anymore  i dont know why they even put it on now a days..

i love wiring systems i work at a electronic assembly and i have everything..wires of all colors sizes /shrink tubes / nitrogen soldering ect.. all my wiring on my car/rc cars/heli are so clean.. i got OCD :bellyroll:when it comes to wiring... man if you/anyone lives close to me i can hook you up with wires/shrink tubes ect.. if your a DIY type of person

Are you looking for a separate tweeters right? Not sure what kind of set up your looking for.. You can use 2 way speakers and use tweeters separate ..or 3 way speakers ..ect. As for brands of speakers/tweeters alpine/Polk/infinity/Rockford/JL.ect.. Are are good top brands..you get what you pay for. I'm sure there's others out her are bit cheaper/different brands.. Make sure you have a good audio head unit to power them speakers up for optimum performance.. :) on my old car I had stock speakers and replaced it with alpine deck with equalizers settings and it made a lot of difference on stock speakers...

What speakers to a want to replace before getting an amp / subs / headunit.

1) Low RPM. If you're enjoying the sound of the engine a lot, you aren't shifting low enough. Definitely try to stay under 4000 for economy - you can get away with under 3500 if you try :)

2) Make it loud and enjoy. Also, your best bet is to focus on your line through turns if you want speed :D

3) The OEM Audio Plus system is what I'll be doing when the time comes. $1000 gets you the custom box, the sub, a sub amp, a new amp for the factory speakers, all the wires (NO SPLICING YAY) and new tweeters for the dash. The only permanent mods to the car are flattening a bracket that's under the carpet anyway, and cutting a 2" flap in the trunk carpet for the connectors to pass through. Easy to remove for track day, and barely takes up any trunk. I want it so bad :(

It won't matter what RPM you shift at if you don't know how to shift. Once you learn the car, then you'll know what the best shift points are. I can successfully shift at 3k rpm and drive like a grandma easily. Shifting just before redline has always been the best for max speed unless you want to read charts all day and find the perfect shift point to match your power/torque bands. I set my rev limiter to 7000 so by the time I hit it, I'm already nearing 7200-7300.

Drive a lot on lots of different streets and places and you'll quickly learn where the "sweet spot" is for each shift.

Stereo system...go into the electronics section of the forum and you can find out a lot more about the speaker sizes and how the panels come apart. If this will be your first audio build I would start by going to different shops and even big box stores to listen to speaker brands (each ear likes a different speaker i.e. silk vs. titanium tweeter). I've been trying to figure out the best set-up myself...(running JL audio components in one vehicle CDT comps in another, drastically different sound but for each vehicle, different speakers/power make the difference). I think I've narrowed down to a 2 way component set to replace the dash and a separate midbass (same brand for voicematching) for the door (rather than a 3 way component set). The door speaker has a small amp in back, you need to consider that as well. You'll want to shop for the whole system (so that you don't end up replacing pieces) even if you end up doing it in stages.
