Forum search issue
I must be dong something wrong as I cannot seem to find anything searching. The only other thread I could find on this was regarding tapatalk but I am using a web browser.
For example I wanted to find any info on JVC audio head units. If I search for JVC using a simple search and select either threads or posts I get nothing. But I happened to find this thread by browsing http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24405 I even after finding this thread searched for JVC? Since that was in the title but still no luck. Am I doing something wrong? . |
No, actually it's the search function. Only words of four letters or more can be searched for. And this is why I came to this subforum.
MOD's, is there any chance to include three letter words in the search function, PLEASE! Today I wanted to search for TIC, RCE, AST, and LCA, but I couldn't. This forum has done a lot to be THE place to go for all reliable info for the twins, but with so many three letter acronyms it's very hard to find a large percentage of the info on here. Thanks |

I could be wrong and its been a while since I've had to get creative on a forum search, but there has to be some limitations when it comes to search parameters.
When you lower a parameter like that it can be a detriment to database performance as it invariably increases the amount of results. That said, what if you try a search using the acronym in the context of a sentence to include a few words as well? |

Well that sucks. But my comment about performance is when doing a query, the chances for a 3 letter combination being found are higher than a 4 letter combo being found. There's a certain amount of overhead involved when you start allowing that much data to be indexed or searched against.
I'm no database expert and I don't know vBulletin's search engine so, take it with a grain of salt... |

site:ft86club.com search rce ^entering that into google will get you a search for all the threads with "rce" (Racecomp Engineering) in it and will link to the start of the thread. site:ft86club.com intext:"rce" ^Entering that will search all text in all posts for "rce" and will take you to the start of the tread as well. |
