No I don't plan to paint. I have yet to see a nice CF part that looks good painted.

Prime, paint, clear, it's pretty straight forward no?

Well, I am glad someone finally posted pics so thanks.

Without it painted it's kind of a scam, a 700$ faux carbon panel with no weight savings?

It's like having fake gold teeth, or stuffing your pants to make your penis look bigger.

I'm rather dismayed the OP had to do a lot of the finish work (drilling holes, making them larger) that probably should have been done by Seibon. But overall the fit seems fine.

I don't follow your logic but ok.

I'm not saying painting is difficult. Being that it is carbon, once painted you loose the depth of the cf so you see the panel surface finish which is hit smooth like metal. It has a bit of wave to it if you will. You'd have to see it in person to understand what I mean.

If you can get close ups that would be great.

My point is, its like wearing a fake Rolex.

Just like running Rotas or any of the rip off body kits...full CF parts are over rated for a car like this, it's not a Ferrari or Lamborghini so why do you need to wear a Rolex when that Citizen works just fine, looks good, and costs less than that Rolex...

NotSoJDM 01-12-2013 11:07 PM

I'd love to see these perfect cars you all have to be so fuckin picky about other people's taste. Good lord, it's like a broken record. You don't like the way something looks, then don't buy it. That's why threads like this exist. Make your own decision. No need to come shitting on my thread cause you don't like it. I do, period. That's why it's on my car.

It's just a lot of money for a faux carbon part, is all. I like the actual CSL lip.
It's just have been through my share of cars where there are so many people who spend an arm and a leg for carbon look parts like these, and there is zero weight benefit. It's a fraud. I understand the "look different" idea but I can never get over knowing it has no benefit and the cost is $$$.

The unpainted look of mismatched panels is subjective obviously. I dont get it but the again we both don't get it. ;)

What is faux about it? It is most certainly real carbon fiber. The negated weight savings is thanks to a fiberglass skeleton the carbon fiber weave is laid on. Which is how it gets to be an affordable part. Not having to design about with composite structure in mind, makes it easy to accomplish at a low price point.

Like I said before here, if you are looking for weight savings, the hood/trunk are not the places to do it effectively. Until you have exhausted all other (much more expensive) alternatives for weight savings.

The difference here is taste. You don't like carbon parts and that's fine. Don't put them on your car. And if you don't like carbon part, why did you click on this thread! To look at something you knew you wouldn't like? Great idea.

Thanks for the pics OP. I'm thinking of getting the Seibon VS hood to help vent my turbo kit heat better.

more pictures of the trunk installed PLEASE!

Supermassive 04-04-2013 07:11 AM

I think I've chimed in and stated my 2 cents already about these parts, but in the end it's just like people replacing tailights, body kits, or any number of things that you can buy for a car. All this focus on weight savings is hilarious, as if everything for a car needs to have some performance gain. The weight savings that you could get by going to an all CF hood like first molding's would be a lot cheaper by taking a healthy dump before your drive. The vented hoods do serve a purpose though, they allow heat to escape the engine bay maybe not perfectly but it definitely helps a little, especially in traffic. As for the look of CF, I get it's not for everyone, I only wanted the vents and plan on painting the hood (leaving the vents CF though). I'm not a huge fan of exposed CF on the exterior of the car but for some strange reason i like the contrast on my Whiteout...of course when the car is painted i may have different feelings.
