ECUTEK & Windows 8

Not sure if this was addressed yet or not, so here you go...

Got these instructions directly from EcuTek Support after upgrading to Windows 8

You can download the Windows 8 compatible drivers from here:
www.ecutek.com/downloads/LicenseKeyDrivers_Windows8.zip
www.ecutek.com/downloads/VehicleInterfaceDrivers_2.04.06_Signed.zip

Installation steps:
1. Extract the two downloaded zipped file. This will create two folders called LicenseKeyDrivers and VehicleInterfaceDrivers - 2.04.06 Signed

2. Open the LicenseKeyDrivers folder and run the bdk2wn3264_7.27.0.47.exe installer. This will install the drivers for your Licence Key (Dongle).

3. Open the VehicleInterfaceDrivers - 2.04.06 Signed folder and run the Setup-x64.exe installer (or Setup.exe if you are running a 32-bit OS). This will install the drivers for your Vehicle Interface cable.

4. Plug in your Licence Key and Vehicle Interface cable. The drivers should automatically install.

5. Download the EcuTek App Downloader from our website:
www.ecutek.com/downloads/AppDldInstaller.exe
  • You do not need to install the Drivers again on the first screen, as you’ve already installed them:
http://viscontiflash.zendesk.com/att...e=image001.png
  • Click on Install EcuTek App Downloader and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Once the EcuTek App Downloader has started, click on the Download Now! to download and install the ProECU software
IMPORTANT: Click Cancel whenthe below Vehicle Interface Driver installer message appears after the EcuTek App Downloader has finished downloading and installing your EcuTek software, as this will try to install unsigned drivers that will possibly fail to install under Windows 8.

If you accidentally clicked OK on the above option, then you must click Cancel on this Window:

6. You can now close all the installer windows and run your ProECU software from the Desktop or Taskbar icon

There's actually a different installer that's fully windows 8 compatible.

If anyone needs it just email me.

Interesting, this is what EcuTek support sent me and it works fine. Wonder how your version differs ?

I have a installer that all you do is

Click next, next, next, next, done

When your one of biggest Master Dealers in the world you get stuff before a lot of other people.

In this case it's a pretty badass windows 8 compatible installer

Yeah, I also had to do the same when I was running Windows 7

No issues with Windows 8 64bit so far, the supplied instructions from EcuTek support work perfect!

Looked at the Surface briefly, I opted for this instead...

I see it's backordered on the US site, but I'm in Canada

The Surface also uses Windows RT, not sure about the Pro and I wanted full blown Windows 8

The "Pro" in Surface Pro actually refers to its use of Windows 8 Pro, so it's a full-blown Windows 8 OS as far as I know.

Haven't personally looked at one, so I can't speak to how well it performs.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Just googled it really quick... ;)

I just received my Samsung ATIV SmartPC 700T. Was going to go with the Surface Pro, but I wanted the longer battery life and keyboard dock. The digitizer is pretty nice as well.

I'll be installing ECUTek on it later today. Will post back with my observations.
