Oil Change today. Have ?
 

1079 miles and did my first oil change today.

Not optimal conditions nor location. I love the smell of fresh clutch in the morning. Between the snow and incline getting it up on the ramps required some feathering of clutch. :)

No surprises with the change. All looked good. First experience with 0-20W oil. Man this stuff is thin.

Anyway... on to the question. The filters came with the crush ring pictured below. Not in the filter box but along with the 6 filters I purchased. I didn't find any crush ring used on the oem filter and it was too large for the drain bolt. What is it for?

It goes on the oil pan drain plug. If it dosent fit they gave you the wrong size.

quick question...what ramps did you use and any issue with the front end when going up??

Those look like Rhino Ramps. They clear the front bumper at stock ride height no problem. Just take it slow coming off the ramps.

As for the crush waasher, it's possible they gave you the older 20mm size. The BRZ/FR-S needs a 16mm crush washer.

Personally, I'd recommend getting a Fumoto oil valve, and never having to worry about washers again. Toolless oil changes FTW.

Sorry guys, don't know what brand ramps. I've had them for years. I don't think the front touched but I couldn't see. It is at stock height plus the car is on an incline and ramps are on a somewhat level spot.

At least what they gave you is actually a crush washer. I just did my first oil change yesterday and when I opened up the filter the "crush washer" they gave me was a black plastic washer. Didn't even fit onto the drain plug so I reused the crush washer that was on the car prior. Not ideal but I didn't have a lot of choice at that point. Went for a drive and there appear to be no leaks but I'll be keeping my eye on it. Definitely plan on getting myself one of those Fumoto valves though. Not getting oil all over your hand when you drain would be nice and I can't quite bring myself to syphon the oil out of the dipstick. I feel like if there are any particulates they might just sit in the bottom and not get syphoned out.

Also, the crush washer that was on there stock appeared to be painted onto the drain bolt and was difficult to seperate. Just a heads up to anyone else that can't seem to find the crush washer that was already on the car.
