the BRZ is not 'rare' maybe now, since the car just came out basically, but it's not some unicorn

subaru isn't marketing the thing like crazy, they have the enthusiast press for that.

scion's the one putting in all the work. I've actually seen the ads on tv and not just on youtube or something

I'm crying on the inside.

I just had a discussion with a friend about the BRZ and driving in snow. It ended up boiling down to comparing the BRZ with the Civic Si and how they are 'basically the same car except the BRZ is RWD'.

Why do you ask? Because the Civic Si has 197 hp and the BRZ has 200 hp...so it is basically the same...

People need to be educated but you can't really blame them. The car is coming from a company that mostly makes family cars (outside of the wrx and sti....which still can be a family car). I just had a young kid driving a toyota celica ask me what I drove at a gas station. I reiterated that it was a Subaru...then said it was a BRZ :)

Yea, my M3 was the same thing as the 5.0 Mustang too. They only had a 2 horsepower difference after all.

My IS300 was the same as a mclaren f1... They both had 4 wheels and glass and ran on gas and and and

Horsepower has little to do with the likeness of a car. The civic and brz are not in the same class... the frs/brz compete with miata, 370z, mercedes slk, etc, while the civic competes with the mazda3, vw golf, nissan sentra, etc...
also, any dohc vtec honda has a way smoother powerband than we do, lol

Civic Si are decent vehicles, but they don't put a smile on my face like the BRZ does.

I think the main reason is because most people just don't give a crap about cars.

switchlanez 12-30-2012 11:18 PM

A kid at my local car wash kept insisting the BRZ was more powerful than the FR-S... he didn't seem to understand me when I said their engines/drivetrains were mechanically identical.

As for marketing, SoA did leverage their facebook page and YouTube channel for social marketing.

He is right. The Subaru is powered by Love...that's what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

Personally, I prefer it this way. It means people who know about the car, appreciate it, and are in the market for one, are the people who actually buy it. I've met people who have FRS who actually don't really care about the car. They just happened to see it when looking at a tC and thought it looked cooler.

i second this

I have met people who have a lot of misconceptions about the car. I have had people tell me the car is AWD,They also assume its turbo'ed, Even had a few people who thought the headlights would move side to side when you turn the steering wheel.

That could be an honest mistake. A lot of HID systems now have adaptive lighting that aims into the corners.
