Its a brand new 2013 model, what did you honestly expect? This niche car will sell itself within the proper circles. Have you picked up an auto magazine? You cant miss the twins there.

It's worse when everyone insists the twins are a Toyota, rebadged as a subaru.

Noone even knows that Suby builds quite a few Camrys out there!

SIA may build Camry's but it's still a 100% Toyota product (parts, assembly process, even the majority of the workers that were TMMK trained when SIA began Camry production). Really nobody SHOULD know that some Camry's are built at a Subaru plant (not BY Subaru).

I have not seen a si gle brz commercial on the tv, seen couple of frs. Its almost subaru doesnt want this car to sell. Maybe they will take it off the market and have some awd car.

DSOmegaX 12-29-2012 01:11 AM

Because Subaru doesn't need to market the car to sell it. They let the car speak for itself. The demand is still higher than the supply, so they're not hurting in any way.

Personally, I prefer it this way. It means people who know about the car, appreciate it, and are in the market for one, are the people who actually buy it. I've met people who have FRS who actually don't really care about the car. They just happened to see it when looking at a tC and thought it looked cooler.

It is still a Suby facility. Pumping out Camrys... right? Even if it is Toyota employees building it. So Toyota is just using their equipment. Just an interesting tid bit to know I guess.

Sort of. All of their equipment was provided by Toyota as well (for the Camry line). It is a cool facility (I've been there many times). Definitely the most "Toyota" manufacturer, that isn't a full Toyota plant (aside from the old NUMMI plant in Cali, that was building the Matrix and Vibe).

fatoni 12-29-2012 01:52 AM

why does every thread turn into this ridiculous "who built the ft86?" nonsense or bickering about which company is superior?

ziggz501 12-29-2012 05:00 AM

Any car enthusiast will know what a brz is. The general public doesn't fall under the category of "car enthusiast". That's why the camry is one of the best selling cars out there. No enthusiast would ever think about driving a camry (unless you have a family). People in general just want some sort of magical four-wheeled device that takes them from point A to point B without much thought involved and yet comfortable/luxurious at the same time.
I'll also bet you that most people that drive Mercedes, BMW, Audi (any brand with their low end model starting at 30k) haven't the slightest clue about why their car cost more than a honda civic other than the fact it has leather interior or gimmick crap like wipers for their headlights... hell, most ppl refer to the Audi R8 as "the iron man car".

ShoNUFF 12-29-2012 09:06 AM

Do you guys think the twins will sell as well or better then the 350z

Considering it's a bit cheaper... 350Z started as ~$28K originally I think?

I believe a similar group of people would cross shop this car.

Hoping nobody buys it.. I like being the only one around!

Turbowned 12-29-2012 04:08 PM

7,000,000,000 people on Earth, 6,000 BRZ's. Do the math. Until Lindsay Lohan wraps one around a tree, it will continue to be relatively obscure, despite it's rave reviews in every magazine/news publication.
