Slamming my FRS / Spring Rate Question.
 

Well, I'm about to purchase BC Racing coilovers, I've always been a fan of slammed cars, but never had one. I had an STi for years but couldn't bring myself to slam it due to the performance of the car, this car...I don't care as much for performance anymore.

So I'm gonna slam it, save me your pep talks, I just have one question.

Spring rates, what should I do if I'm trying to max out low? Thanks!

Not a fan of slamming, but I'd say if you're going to use it as an everyday driver wouldn't airbags be a better choice? It would assist in not destroying the bottom of the car due to the horrible infrastructure here in the USA... You can go low and then pick up your skirt before crossing the puddles. :)

Airbags aren't what I'm really into. I like the thought of being static 24/7. I have buddies who are literally laying frame static where I live with no problems, and my daily commute doesn't have any speed bumps. So, I should be okay rolling down the road a few inches off the ground. :)

If I had more money to drop on bags, I MIGHT do it, but I'm getting a damn good deal on brand new BC Coilovers, so I'm jumping on it.

What spring rate can the BC coilovers actually handle? If you go too stiff on rate, the ride will be complete crap. If you want 1" of travel, I'd say quite high rates, higher than the BCs will likely be happy with. I don't slam my cars but I'd go with an initial guess of 500+lb/in up front and 450+lb/in in the rear.

The roads around here would tear you to shreads being super low so I figured I'd throw it out there if you plan on traveling outside of your locale area! :thumbsup:

I live in Florida, and I used to live up in CT. I know plenty of people with slammered cars on roads worse than Tennessee who function fine, guess it's all just about the driver.

its all about the driver...

im pretty low here in MA, i have the basic set-up BC coils (i believe 6k f/r). does fine for me. i dont rub with my current wheel setup either. only advice, if you have an aftermarket exhaust that sits lower, it will be the first thing to scrape.

still need to get some more alignment work done, and leveling/ corner balancing, but its getting close to acceptable for me.

p.s: i WISH roads here were like they were in florida, i lived in FL for a bit, and most roads were so smooth, be happy!!

have any axle slop/noise at that height?

not that i can tell. i will take a close listen. what would it sound like? when would it be present?

bc are 6k/7k i havent installed them yet but my s14 was scrapn frame and running 8k/6k stance coils. it doesnt really matter the rate but if its stiffer you have less chance of rubbing. granted u dont care about ride quality
