DMS coilovers in development
I emailed Drummond Motorsport the other day and thought I would pass on a little gossip. They're developing struts in there 40mm and 50mm sizes for the 86.
40mm is bump and rebound adjustable as well as hight adjustable. It's intended for the street but are very competitive on track. The 50mm is a race and rally strut. 40/50mm is the piston diameter. 50mm is big! I knew a guy who had the 40mm set on a gen 7 Celica, they went great. More info on there website. www.dmshocks.com |
sweet! dms isnt that well known here in the states since they're better known in rally racing, but a decent shock nonetheless.

I had a set of the 40s many years ago and have driven on numerous 50s.
Mine required a regrease after EVERY event to avoid stiction issues. Excellent damping, but after trying everything to fix them and not getting much help from DMS I got the shits and replaced them. I have no current experience ... and am not likely to try them again. |
I had a set of the 50s on my WRX back in the day, they were the mid length ones.
I'll be honest I had the same issues coyote did with them, they required regreasing way too often to be used on the street. You had to be very careful to make sure the breathers were clear as well. You can find a ton of threads from NASIOC and other places regarding these issues, my hope is sometime in the last 6-7 years since they have fixed most of the issues, but I definitely wouldn't be willing to take a chance again. There are probably much better options out there. |
I've heard a lot of good things about them. The bad things I have heard are to do with regreasing though.
