Get my GTS today

:):):)
Well after a very very long wait I finally get the keys to my Grey GTS today, excited...

Just a couple of questions for you guys:

1. I have purchased plates slim on front and normal back:
Normal 372mm x 134mm , Slim line 372mm x 100mm

Whats the best way to put these on the car so it doesn't look dodgy?
I have seen some expensive holders, $200 for both seems excessive.

2.Tinting $495 discounted from $695 seems a bit over the top? also is darkest legal too much for these cars?

3. Opticoat in Perth quoted at $850, I have heard good things but dealers PP was around $800 that includes 2 years minor scratch and dent repair, i know its probably not as good though. thoughts??

4. Need to get insurance done today asap, I have been quoted 991, im over 30? ideas?

DanVIIIVI 12-25-2012 02:47 AM

1. StreetFX Slimline plate bracket. (search the Australia Classifieds on here).
2. $495 is steep, if that's through the dealer, just go elsewhere. Darkest legal isn't enough in my opinion. If you want to stay legal and roadworthy just go darkest legal.
3. Dealer paint protection isn't as good as Opticoat unless they are using opticoat. I would opt out of the dealer paint protection package and get Opticoat done externally, you should be able to get it cheaper than $850 aswell.
4. That is way too much. I'm 26 and my quote was around $840 per year through Toyota Insurance, and about the same through JustCar.

BRAWL 12-25-2012 06:38 AM

For that price, dealer paint protection is worthwhile as it comes with scratch and dent which is well worth it!

stevo_12v 12-25-2012 07:26 AM

1. Wouldn't bother with plate bracket and that' is just wank. 3M double sided VHB tape FTW.

2. Get your tinting done from TKO in Carlisle. I paid $315 for mine.
I think the going price for other 86 owners there so far is just over 3 hun.

3. If that includes dent repair, go for it.

4. Go SGIO for insurance. This is what I'm paying

Thanks
Streetwise is what the dealer offers.....$88/repair, anyone heard of this? So it's not free....

2. Also got mone done at TKO, great job & knows how to install on 86's. Mine was $295

3. Derek (Shikyna) also does Opti-coating in Perth, $500. Great job, more info: http://*************/forum/f62/paint...opticoat-1068/

omgwtfbbqsauce 01-03-2013 08:31 PM

I think your paying too much IMO.

I got mine done for $140 with darkest legal and Opticoated my car for $400 lifetime warranty. I'm in Sydney though not sure if that makes a difference, but very happy with both the tint and opticoat

stevo_12v 01-04-2013 09:39 AM

Everything in Perth is priced much more than over east. That's the way things are. Freighting stuff takes ages too.

Where the pics ?

Ended up paying $1200 for new car delivery, opticoat and interior, didn't see the earlier post of $500 :( but I think Mark does a good job.
Got 3M black for $345 (GTS tinting), instead of solar guard from TKO, prob no difference at all.
Paid $400 for reversing sensors (TBH waste of money but hey ho)
Have ordered Reversing HID led kit....
First pic is straight from dealer, appeared more sparkly and grey, other pics post opticoat, looks like it has taken it a shade darker, no more sparkles :(
3M black on the second last pic and sensors on the final.

Wouldn't mind if someone could recommend a professional aftermarket gut to install quality rear camera though. Not keen on the stereo in this car but that's not why I bought it lol
I am just waiting on my new plates to be delivered so that I can remove the horrible City Toyota ones, so you guys recommend using 3M VHB to stick plates directly on? Could only find gorilla grip tape in Bunnings...Any tips on this? Anywhere sell this in Perth?
Cheers

Should have got TKO to do the tinting, finally put the drivers window down after a week and the corner of the film crumpled, not happy Jan. Also there is the odd tiny little bubble on the back windscreen, taking it back up to get fixed.

Pics look great! Good to see another grey GTS around Perth.

That is poor with the tinting. Try get money back and then go get Trent at TKO to do it. Think TKO have done half of the 86's in Perth :-)

youngy 01-10-2013 02:31 AM

Yip would be nice with some brembos, I think its because every time you open the drivers door it brings the window down a little, it's on that corner. Getting my cash back would be a pain so I will just get him to replace it. But of it happens again then I will be asking for money back for sure.
Just waiting on my new number plate, it's taking ages....

Hahaha you got your car fromt City Toyota?? Their service department(so far in my experience) have been pretty good.

I personally prefer to use 3M double sticky on my plates, gives a much more 'cleaner' look. Looks less busy if you know what I mean..
You can get the 3M VHB tape from GGH in canningvale. It's along Baile road. Here is the tape in question.. its pretty expensive @ $115-$120 per 32.9m roll..

Don't bother with the 3M 1inch x 1inch foam squares from Officeworks. They are CRAP and you will end up peeling that crap off after 6months as they aren't weather proof. See pic:

As for rear vision camera, ever thought about using the BlackVue as one? It has a video out. Here's a sceenshot of mine today(with a Toyota spotting)
http://i50.tinypic.com/jtkrkm.png
The output comes out from a 3.5mm jack to a yellow/black RCA which you can then route into the head unit(I'm not sure if the GTS sat nav unit will allowed you to connect it up - as I didn't bother and already sold mine). But my android head unit does have reverse camera hook up though(via RCA).
I'll be getting A-One to hook up my reverse camera.. most probably next month when they have got their custom sub enclosure and tweeter mounts sorted.

EDIT: You've ordered your Reverse HID LED Kit? Hope you ordered them from @KI_ZN6?? He's got the BEST LED's out there. @GaN-MaN knows what I'm talking about when comparing them to another vendors LED's hahaha. But anyway, Kenneth @KI_ZN6) is a great vendor and will look after you. I'd recommend going the whole LED setup imho. LED Fogs, Dome/Map, License plate, Boot, Reverse Lights. You can also get LED indicators, but I don't think they are legal. I'd rather get the TRD chrome indicators.

GaN-MaN 01-30-2013 11:43 PM

Plus 1 on @KI_ZN6. His LED's are legit! Love them.

Also, if u got Facebook, PM me details and I'll add ya to the club page.
@evil_1998 and yourself aren't busy this Friday come down to A One Audio, Cnr of Beaufort St and Bulwer St from 6pm. A number of us are heading down there to check out my custom boot enclosure along with other custom enclosures they've come up with.

KI_ZN6 01-31-2013 12:24 AM

Thanks for the complements guys and glad you are loving your LED upgrades. =)

Sorry to hear about your tint issues....they should replace it under warranty. Im very selective about my choice of tint, so personally i'll be going with this brand as i've been using them for all my cars over the last 10 years: http://www.v-kool.com/our-products/a...kool-solitaire

They're pricey and not available in Oz, but I purchase them overseas and simply get my local tinting guy to install it. Their stuf is really outstanding and I really recommend them.

I choose the v-kool 55 for my side and rear windows as I don't really like it too dark, but they also have a darker one if you prefer that.

The best thing is that they offer a product which has 70% VLT that I use on my whole windsreen. They are so light that you can't even tell its there, yet it blocks out a huge amount of heat. Think about it, windscreens are large and that's where lots of the heat comes from anyway. Yes I know its technically illegal to tint the windscreen, but I think the rules are really outdated and doesn't factor in the new technology/products available on the market now.

Unless privacy is your main objective, darker tints doesn't mean better heat rejection, and again i believe even the v-kool 70 outperforms most of the cheap "darkest legal tints" on the market in terms of heat rejection. Also, I have no vested interest in this company....im simply a very satisfied customer who wants to share this with others.

Fantastic info guys, I ended up with buying a streetfx for the front off panman, all good.
Stevo do you have the Steve wa plate? I'm sure I was behind you in the polypipe the other week.
I have thought about the blackvue and want to get one fitted to the front at the very least, the pic shows the km/h that would be great, wasn't sure you could log that info like that on the actual cam. Missed out on the group buy of that and the power magic box.
Yip thats where I got the reversing LEDs and now I wish I got the whole set lol, great person to deal with.
Keep me posted on the chrome TRD indicators though, I like the sound of that.
I will need to come down and have a look at the audio place as the FB page looks interesting.
How is the android head unit? Does it have gps also? I'm looking to shift my head unit and get a better audio setup with rear camera for sure, well that's the plan anyway.
Too much to do, air intake would be good too :)
The tinting is all good now but I need to get the wife's forester done and I like the idea of getting the windscreen done as its like driving a greenhouse, not good in the summer. How can I get ahold of it in Perth for her car? Might not be worth it seen as it's a bit of a run around for beach etc.

I'm using the streetfx slimline bracket and have to say I'm not too fond. :/
You can have a look at it if your coming down to A One tomorrow night.

stevo_12v 01-31-2013 12:19 PM

Hahahaha! Yeah that was me! [FA 20 WA] right? I saw the 'slit' DRLs behind me, then you turned your lights to fully on(i saw the tadpole shape) then I realised it was an 86 behind me. Did you see the retard in the white Corolla almost merge into me?? lol

Sorry I didn't wave, I was trying to see your plate to see if it was one of the current members.
You got 'spotted' too btw..
http://i47.tinypic.com/2z5t6jl.jpg

For tinting, go see Trent @ TKO, he does a great job.

Android head unit is pretty good(for being one of the 'first' type of android head unit). The GPS is far better than the stock GTS sat nav. It uses something called "iGo", looks similar to [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f13IOYBai0I"]this[/ame].

The Adayo AN6B01 head unit I have has provision for rear camera setup. And apparently(in the manual) it states what if the rear camera is connected and you engage reverse gear, the screen will automatically display the rear camera. I'll be getting a system done at A-One pretty soon probably within the next fortnight or so. And I'll get them to connect up my Adayo with my rear BlackVue camera. (BV has a 3.5mm jack output > RCA)
http://i50.tinypic.com/jtkrkm.png

You can still get the BlackVue's off StreetFX btw. I'd go for the new updated '500G' model as that apparently is bigger, and doesn't overheat. The power magic pro is $58(inc freight) from Camzilla.

Thats me yes! Just remembered that idiot, I remember thinking shit that was close :)
I'd be keen on getting a system setup by them also, just need to find the cash for it as I wanted a holiday too lol :)

Could you elaborate?

GaN-MaN 02-01-2013 03:34 AM

Of the bracket?

Well it feels cheap and looks cheap. My plates aren't flat facing forward. It's tilted down.
There's a bunch of excess bits on the edges and looks rough.
Just not a fan.
I've seen the Larkin Plate holders and I can say those are beautiful.
They just look so legit. So much nicer. Prestige.
Of coz, it comes at a hefty price. :/

youngy 02-01-2013 03:44 AM

I have also noted that they are slightly angled down, is that legal? I'm sure the multinovas will still ping u
