Two different versions of 86 sat nav?
I've just found some pictures that suggest there are two different versions of the 86 GTS sat-nav.
1. Original http://i.imgur.com/bf74Z.jpg 2. Updated version? http://i.imgur.com/dek8u.jpg Can anyone shed some light on the two versions? Is the second image a newer version coming out on later model cars? My car is currently at A20 and booked for production in January 2013. I'm really hoping I get the second unit shown above as I think the original is pretty damn ugly. Here is the sauce for the second image... http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/toyota/...n-content-area |
That second picture was posted in January.
So I'd say the first image is the updated version. |
top one is Australian spec, bottom is UK spec. Or JDM or something

Hi,
The second is the original equipment for the european model, TAS300 and is difficult to found information on it i.e documents regarding the plugs particurlarly to connect a rear camera.Rhe model is call Touch and Touch&Go with the GPS option allowing SMS and email with bluetooth telephone. |
All European GT86s go with the 2nd option which could be with ("Touch&Go") or without navigation (just "Touch"). The first one goes for 86 in Australia as rightly mentioned earlier. So, I'm afraid pal - you'll get the first one.
However, not a big loss - I am personally unhappy with this "Touch". First of all because of orange/amber backlight of all the buttons - very "good" looking with the rest of the car with red backlight (in 2 tones already). I also asked my dealer not to instal the OEM microphone as it's positioning (saw 3 different options) looks very cheap and aftermarket. I would pay any amount for a good looking head unit with Toyota OEM front panel dimension, red backlight and decent positioning of the micropmone - like on BRZs. Hopefully one day either Toyota or someone else create it. |
damn, wish we got #2, instead we have the shity one based off the first one, in the BRZ at least.

Appreciate all the responses.
Yeah that's a shame because I personally think the interface on the second unit is much cleaner and doesn't look as cheap. If it turns out I get the first unit I will most likely look for an alternative. Toyota need to take or even completely steel some design ideas from VW. Maybe I'm just spoilt because I'm used to the RNS510. |
Makes this...

Yeah, this is one of my dislikes after using my car for a bit now. The touch screen buttons are tiny and with a bumpy ride, it could be a hit or miss. I wish I have the 2nd screen as well. Plus, going from radio to a2dp is more than a few steps. Even more when it does not auto connect the first time.
