FRS/86/BRZ vs RSX Type S

Your thoughts? Other than one being FWD and the other RWD, they're very similar cars (handling and spec wise)

Thoughts?

They aren't really similar at all, I came from a DC5 to the BRZ. The k20 is a better motor but apart from that the DC5 suffered from poor suspension design (steering arm on from strut and rear multi link suspension with very low travel).

I loved the DC5 a lot and in some respects it's a much nicer car then the BRZ for example the direct feel, glorious
motor and lovely transmission but as a package the BRZ is a better car a d requires less work and maintenance to handle well

Like stevan says, the k20 is a really nice motor. I didnt, and still to this day, dont think the handling on the DC5 is terribly bad, but compared to the FRS, thats a whole different story. I swap between the two cars pretty often, and the driving experience for both are totally different.

vs RSX ? except for the engine other than that nothing is even closed for a comparison from awesome precise solid steering, handling ... to total driving feel and experience. It like I would still take the 86 over any "200hp" 911/cayman version any day and call it "SMART BUYER CAR" for my practical daily commuting :)

there are a bunch of thoughts if you care to search for the old vs rsx thread.

Not to hate but what's so amazing about the FA20 engine? I love my FR-S but when comparing the k20 engine from the early 2000s to the brand new FA20 its hard to see any advantages in the FA20 even though it was made a decade after..
mpg is basically the same in both and the k20 pumps out more hp.

In stock form the K20 engine (both a2 and Z1) make the same peak or a few HP more from the factory so the claim of more power is inclredulous. In fact, the FA20 makes more torque than those K20 engines. You want to talk about aftermarket? There the K20 has the win, but it's been out for how many years?

why did you even make this topic anyways? FWD SPORTY vs RWD SPORT simple as that

eljefe 12-27-2012 12:24 PM

I came from a 2003 RSX-S. Just sold it. I owned it since 2007. My BRZ feels faster. Turn radius is like half. Handling is so much better, driver position in relation to the shifter/steering wheel is better.

The RSX had its benefits however. 30+ MPG, still a 6 speed with a 200hp, and way more cargo space are the only things that come to mind. It was an excellent daily driver and i used it for work due to all the cargo space.

Now that I have a job where i don't drive my own car all day, the BRZ is a much more fun commuting car. Ill always be a Honda guy at heart, and i still have my EG hatch in the garage at home when i feel like going fast.

if it was that simple there wouldnt be any reason to buy the frs either.
