My Wannabe JDM Type S

Finally time to start the car journal, due to jetlag.

I have a 2013 BRZ Limited in Satin White Pearl with package 1B.
Being the JDM lover from before JDM was cool, I've been in the process of JDMing it out. It's my first new car, (but not my first Subaru, had a GDA WRX and a SG9 Forester XT Sports) and something that I hope to keep to pass down to a younger relative, just like my cousin passed me down his one owner 67.5 Datsun Roadster, which I'm in the process of restoring.

Here's some pics from when I picked it up at the dealer. I was lucky to find it for less than MSRP, and only had to wait a month to get it!

http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/...7-20062319.jpg

Still had all the plastic on it, only 6 miles.

http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/...7-20062520.jpg

First mod was opticoating it. I haven't taken any pictures since buying the car, because I've been traveling a lot for work. As of today it has 5xx miles on the chassis.

Mod List (with pictures eventually)

Looking great, can't wait to see the parts in your garage on it! :)

Thanks,

how are those JDM S Exhaust Tips?

ZC6BRZ 01-08-2013 10:31 PM

They're fine. Bolts right on. No change in sound, just a cosmetic mod. Just installed JDM 86 GT Rear Seat Silencer and JDM Knee Pads!

nix 01-09-2013 01:30 AM

Spacers look good. Apparently it's only like 9:30pm in SF right now so hurry and get the springs on. :D

ZC6BRZ 01-09-2013 02:12 AM

Gonna wait on the springs for a bit. Figure I'd let the spacers break in and recheck the torque after 100 miles or so, then install the springs. Enjoy all the interior mods for now!

RallySport Direct 01-09-2013 02:45 AM

I need to see some more shots with the spacers on!!! :) The stock wheels are actually starting to grow on me, I just never liked the sunken look they had, so I would be interested to see how your car looks with the more aggressive stance on stock wheels! :)

Thanks,
Rick

Is there a noticeable difference with the sound changer?
Also what are the JDM S Speaker covers?
Great build man, car is lookin' good!

ZC6BRZ 01-10-2013 03:28 PM

Thanks for the kind words!

The Sound Changer has reviews here, so I'll let them answer more, but yes it is noticeable. I haven't revved the car above 4k yet as I'm breaking it in, and it's supposed to be more noticible above 4k.

The Speaker covers, the dealer in Japan ordered the wrong part for the RH Speaker grille, so I need to order just that one piece. :sigh: Right now busy planning a wedding, so it'll probably have to wait til after that.

Turbowned 01-11-2013 12:39 PM

I'm anxiously awaiting pics of the Regamasters installed!! Looove those wheels :)

ZC6BRZ 01-11-2013 10:18 PM

Thanks SC David for the awesome shots!

6-Shift 01-16-2013 07:31 PM

What is a gurney flap?

ZC6BRZ 01-16-2013 07:35 PM

Gurney flap is the rubber flap on the spoiler.

Beyer Subaru 01-16-2013 08:08 PM

Wheels look great spaced!

I'm debating spacing my prodrives. This doesn't help the argument. Meh.

Sean-SRM 01-16-2013 09:13 PM

Your car is awesome! Great mods.

overlookedx 01-17-2013 12:04 PM

I didn't like the rear spoiler until I saw yours with the gurney flap on it. Where'd you get that? Hopefully not too expensive?

Slartibartfast 01-17-2013 12:23 PM

Rear Console Silencer: SU003-04321

Silencer?
What is it silencing? Drive line noise? Does it work? And lastly, how much was it?
Thanks

Yeah the gurney flap makes a big difference! I go to Japan for work often, so I bought it there. You can buy it from Japanparts.com for about 100 bucks. You could also try to make one from Home Depot stuff. It isn't anything special.

That's just the name that Toyobaru calls it. The stock one is also called a silencer. It's just a cosmetic mod, it's the same underneath as the stock piece.

That's what I was thinking. Reminds me of the garage door weather seal lip that people had for their WRXs. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to make it from something like that for a lot cheaper.

switchlanez 01-21-2013 01:09 PM

I'm liking the attention you give to your interior. That gurney flap really looks great against SWP... subtly sporty but makes a huge difference! Can't wait to see after your wheels/springs are installed.

Xdragonxb0i 01-21-2013 01:13 PM

What is type S? I didn't think the gt86 had trims like type s/ or type r

chulooz 01-21-2013 01:19 PM

I believe "S" is the top trim in Japan.

BRZs in Japan has 3 trim levels. From more expensive to least:

S (comparable to Limited in the US)
R (comparable to Premium in the US)
RA (stripper model)

S differences from USDM Limited:
S adds leather trimmed door speakers and knee pads
S adds frameless mirror

Limited has Alcantara & seat heaters, S it's an option.
Limited has Rear Spoiler, S it's an option (with Floor Undercover).

USDM has LED Dayliner, JDM is option.

sho220 01-21-2013 02:17 PM

Wheels look great with the spacers. Has me re-thinking aftermarket wheels...

ayau 01-26-2013 09:12 PM

Are you going to swap the rear tail lamps too?

ZC6BRZ 01-26-2013 09:15 PM

I'd like to eventually. Hoping I can find someone in Japan who would be interested in trading but no luck yet.
