No Spoon parts for the 86...

Kind of a bummer but oh well. Interesting to see his opinion on the car being an ex-S2000 owner...

Can't tell if trolling or serious.

Should have bought a Honda instead.

Interesting video. As a former Honda owner I'm disappointed spoon won't be jumping ship to the 86 haha, I've always been a huge fan of spoons tuning philosophy and have always had their parts on my cars. I definitely agree the s2k is the racier car, but to say you need to spend three times the cash is a bit of a stretch I think....

Celica00 12-17-2012 10:44 PM

... this is what i got from that:

"hondas are the greatest thing ever. to get the new 86 as good as a honda, you need to spend alot of money. how much money? the amount of money that we could make 3 or 4 hondas racecars with, thats how much."

thats quite the assumption considering he hasnt started working on it yet.

I deeply respect the spoon philosophy and im a die hard ITR fan, but at a certain point you get tired of constantly restoring your car and doing 150k maintenance, so i wanted a new chassis. I think he is wrong in saying that the frs is not a true racing car, of course the itr will always be a legend, but honda hasnt made one since 2001 dc2 and 2006 dc5, excluding the fd5 civic chassis it has been 7 years since they have made a real racing car....

The frs will have a long and respectful racing history, it has already proven that in the short time it has been out, i always explain this to my friends that it drives like a rwd ITR, and to some guys that makes sense, with the road noise and direct driver feedback....

Now spoon, please make parts for the frs chassis, it will be greatly appreciated!

I thought Spoon was a Honda only tuner...besides Honda guys have a stick up their ass concerning the 86 platform.

Just wait til VTEC kicks in...

Just because Spoon doesn't want to take on another company/car for tuning, we really aren't at a loss. There are so many reputable and highly recognized tuning/parts companies that are jumping on the bandwagon to develop parts for this platform.

To compare the FRS/GT86/BRZ to something like the S2K is a bit tough. They were built on slightly different philosophies. I would rather daily drive one of the twins over a S2K any day. The S2K is more of a honed track day car. The highlight of the car is essentially the high revving and high output motor, and somewhat the chassis as well. Toyota and Subaru went out and developed the more balanced car that any enthusiast can drive. Put a RWD novice in a S2K and I guarantee they will run out of experience quicker and find themselves facing the other way.

The philosophy of the Miata is more along the lines of what the twins accomplished and surpassed in many aspects. If people are looking for this platform to turn the fastest laps and win races day in and day out, this may be the wrong car. At least at this stage of the game. As development continues and prices of the parts come down a little, then perhaps this platform will be a trackstar as the years progress.

Honestly, enjoy the ride and take in the experiences. Just because the reviews say it's a phenomenal car (stock form) doesn't mean aftermarket parts will produce the same results as other platforms.

I thought, it was pretty interesting vid. I didn't think, he wasn't saying false statement. Type-R is an amazing car. 86 due lack few things if you compare w Type-R... but is that a bad thing? (From this on is full opinion & not agreeable to everyone). Type-R is a pretty much a perfected car. You have a very limited things you can do... vs 86 is a white canvas that you can change em to whatever you like. Full drag king by swapping out w LS engine & turbo it. Maybe want to make it autox car & only touch suspension & take 1st place in gymkhana (BRZ)! Or become drift crazy & compete in Formula D or D1GP (Gushi, Orido, NOB, NomuKen, Hibino). Or maybe you wanna be real crazy & do some VLN 24hr race (which 86 took 1st place x2).

86 is unlimited options... that's one of the reason I've fallen in love w the 86. You choose what 86 style to be, not the auto brand tell you what to be.

Again, this is ALL my opinion & by any means, I'm not insulting on Honda or Type-R. Cuz, they are amazing stock car... just I like 86 options more than Type-R

ITR is one of the finest examples of honda ever made. Sw388s are legendary and i wish those would come in 5x100 et 30ish. Don't want rotas tho...

Ro_Ja 12-18-2012 02:38 AM

Damn. Was looking forward to more development on their 86 demo car too.
