Thoughts on JVC?

Im going to be picking up my new FR-S christmas eve! I definitely want Nav/Backup cam and I hate the BeSpoke unit. I havent found anyone talking about JVC on here. Anyone put a JVC unit in their FR-S/BRZ? I'm looking at getting this:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/JVC-DVD-CD-USB-SD-Radio-Nav-KWNT800HDT/dp/B0079LGH00/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1355676961&sr=8-2&keywords=jvc+navigation"]KWNT800HDT[/ame]

I was originally looking at a pioneer unit but I saw too many bad reviews on the web. . .

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated!

I have a JVC KW-AVX740 sitting in my garage right now. I'm putting it in when I get back in the spring. It doesn't have nav built-in, but uses my iphone for nav via cable. I've been very happy with JVC head units.

I currently own 2 JVC double DIN head units, a motion sensor equiped head unit un my 99 civic (display turns off after 5 seconds of inactivity in front of the screen (Soooooooo great at night) and I also have an older model one in my 85 Celica, loves the two units so much, for your radio's side moldings, we should see how much they are at Subaru Canada, the OEM head unit of Canadian's BRZ are aftermarket Pioneer head units with cute extensions

Ive gone into detail before on this forum and dont really feel like typing it out right now, but as someone who sells these units for a living I would never buy anything other than a Pioneer. Basically the downsides to Pioneer units are much better than the downsides to other units.

I'd be in for a set if someone wants to set up a group buy, or if you know of a place that sells them now?

I did a "search" for JVC in the forum and didn't find anything. . . It seems to me that Pioneer are very unresponsive as far as touch screens go. If you decide you feel like going into a little more detail I would be curious what the downside of JVC units are.

From my experience JVC has been a second tier brand as far as car audio goes, for nav radios the big three are pretty much alpine, kenwood, and pioneer. To put things quickly, (and I can probably go into more detail later, although im on vacation and this is what I do at work)

Alpine: bad product support, they want to go OEM and are not supporting their aftermarket products like they should.

Kenwood: new ipod comes out, get new parts or a new radio, no software updates. Also difficult user interface compared to Pioneer, this probably wont be an issue to most people but when im showing an older couple who still dont know what smartphones are how to use their radio, I like it to be incredibly simple.

Pioneer: slow loading when first turning on, X930/Z130 had issues with touchscreen, however most were cleared up with X940/Z140. Z140 voice control SUCKS, but I hate VC anyway.

JVC: In my experience, (I dont sell JVC but ive had all kinds of radios come in with problems) poor product support, poor customer service for repairs, long delays on repairs. obviously most of my experience with these is when they break since I dont sell them, but from other shops who do sell them ive heard DOA has been an issue before (something I NEVER experience with Pioneer and Kenwood) and again poor customer service.

I prefer Pioneer to anything else because of: Ease of use, readily available parts and service, all the necessary features and add-ons, reasonable price, and a good looking interface (on the NAV units, dont like the AVH series)

Again, this is all just my experience, there will be many people who have owned each of these brands and loved them or not had these issues occur at all. My word is not the end all be all, JUST my experience.

Good luck with whichever decision you make!

I have a JVC KW-NT50HDT in my FRS ([ame="http://www.amazon.com/KW-NT50HDT-Automobile-Audio-Navigation-System/dp/B0055PFE3I"]Amazon.com: KW-NT50HDT Automobile Audio/Video GPS Navigation System: GPS & Navigation[/ame]). It's Ok - nothing too fancy. I I haven't had any issues with it at all.

I also have a JVC Arsenal KW-ADV790 in my '94 MR2 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...KW-ADV790.html). It is also OK, and also not too fancy. I have had it for several years, and had zero issues with it as well.

Playing discs with lots of MP3s is a hassle because the list view and interface are not laid out well for it. Also, the am/fm tuner is pretty weak in both - there was a slight but noticeable decrease in reception after install. Sound quality is good and touch screen is pretty responsive. For what they are, they are pretty basic. As mentioned before, JVC is fairly entry level for a quality unit, but leaps and bounds above Jensen/Dual/Boss/etc (from my very limited experience with those brands).

I bought this unit and so far its served me well. Fast start up time, quick to find addresses. Only complaints would be with the POI in that its difficult to find certain locations sometimes and easier to just put in the address if you have a way to do so. Otherwise its been great

Anyone looked at the JVC KW-AV70BT? I'd like to know if this head unit is any good. Have had a look at some reviews and seem ok but really want to know if anyone as used it with iPhone apps on the touch screen.

It looks very expensive but I already have a kiwi plx wifi OBD2 connector and it appears from the specs that I can stream the gauges etc to the 7" LCD screen using my iPhone.

At the moment I have to mount my Samsung Tab 2 7" tablet with HKS OB-Link OBD2 connector or my iPhone with the Kiwi plx OBD2 connector. To have the car audio screen display the gauges would be very cool.
