Seriously, what the HELL do all of these vendors think they can get away with?

I'm seeing minimum $800 for a damn clutch for a SCION.

I paid $600 for a top of the line Stage 5 clutch 500whp for my 370Z.

What on earth is going on here?

maybe its new market syndrome. the vendors will sell them cheap once others start showing up?

also, i see ACT has a clutch w/ a light flywheel for about 600. not bad at all but idk about how quality it is

Good call. But still.... that's just outright rude for a $25,000 car.

My Cobalt SS clutch was $400 for a Stage 3 and the car was brand new at the time. JDM vendors are ballsy.

i completely agree. but i've noticed people outside of the US pay freakin top dollar for their cars.

Yeah, just noticed that. Is an aftermarket flywheel even completely necessary if you're just upgrading the clutch?

You can resurface the stock flywheel but a higher mileage or beat up flywheel will require replacement.

ACT options range from $515 to $800 depending on the needed capacity.

Almost all the FRS/BRZ options from any MFG include a lightweight flywheel of some sort when compared to stock.

I haven't personally had the clutch out of our FRS here yet but I assume there is a reason for it. Could be that the way they made their clutch kits that they may not mate to the stock flywheel, hard to say.

They may also be doing it due to warranty issues. Often times people will not re-surface their stock flywheel, and just slap the new clutch kit on. Then when the clutch wears prematurely they ask to have it warrantied. Including a flywheel raises the costs but also lowers possible warranty claims due to improper installation. ( Just speculation on my part. )

You would be surprised the number of people that don't think they need to have the stock flywheel machined or replaced if out of spec.

When I spoke to Spec at PRI he was saying something about the pressure plate options for the one that comes Oem.

ACT is good stuff. yeah its pricy but good.

chargespeed just came out with a body kit for this car that costs $7k!!!!

Not poser idiots...because poser idiots don't usually have that kind of disposable income. I am buying the Chargespeed front bumper because it's the only bumper that I like, and I haven't really found a lip kit that I like either. Am I a poser for being able to actually "afford" upgrading a brand new car? I'm always amazed at the people screaming about things being so expensive on a just released platform, that is in such high demand.

I'm assuming you're new to the import world, Civics and Integra's have been around forever so yeah parts are cheaper and easier to come by. Want to see how expensive import building can be, look at Supra parts, or RX-7 parts, or 300ZX parts...then look at European car parts. There are already plenty of cheap parts for the FR-S but when you get into actual quality manufacturers you're gonna pay a premium. Go ahead buy a rocket bunny kit, sure it's only $4500, but you aren't taking into consideration the labor required to put that on the car...which involves a lot of chopping up a perfectly good car.

Clutches are expensive right now because they come with flywheels, the stock flywheel is heavy...I mean super heavy, when i have mine replaced I'll weigh it for ya, I plunked down the cash for a Clutchmasters FX400 6 puck clutch...why, because I'm going FI, why? Because I can.

Don't be bitter because you bought into a brand new platform and weren't prepared for what goes on when something is brand spanking new. If it's too expensive now give it a couple years prices will come down, as the car has been around for a while. I hate hearing people bitch and moan about how this car is cheap and parts should be cheap. Wanna know what's crazy, I bought a 1998 Toyota Supra TT in 1999 for $28,000 and that was expensive back then. $26000 is still expensive today, it's hilarious seeing all these kids with this car that can just barely afford the payments and insurance that complain about how it's a cheap car and things should be cheaper for it.
