"OEM" Alarm System - Worth it?

Sorry if this is a noob question but this is my first real car that's worth anything (read: not a used daily beater) and I was thinking of installing an alarm. What do you guys all think of alarm systems in general? Are they worth it?

I found the shop that does the 'OEM' alarm upgrade for my local Toyota dealership, specifically it's this one:
http://www.directeddealers.com/manua...-01%20web2.pdf

The shop says "It turn your factory keyless entry into a full security sytem without having to carry extra remote". Direct from the shop is $250 installed for the regular Toyota dealership alarm upgrade, +$120 for a proximity sensor. I have roof spoiler/roof lips stuck on with only 3M tape so I thought a prox sensor would be nice.

Will I get an insurance discount (Farmers) with the alarm system so it pays for itself eventually anyway? What do you guys think?

my dealer installed my PRo4 Alarm on mine with factory keyless entry. with the proximity sensor? im not really sure about that if the roof spoiler would activate if somebody stole it. i mean, with a little bit of heat double side tape get off easy. correct me if im wrong.

and yes insurance would give u discount. my insurance dropped $25 on my payments, atleast lol

i've had alarm systems in a few of my cars and i've learned this:

It doesn't matter if your car has an alarm or not, if that guy wants what's in your car, he's going to get it. I'd say save the money and put it towards something else.

In the end, your still paying an insurance deductable. If you have a prox sensor on the alarm system, this MAY scare a few petty thieves.
