Modifying a Limited Production Car?
Toyota has put us in a bit of a quandary. They have designed this car with the expectation that owners will modify it, yet we (as the potential first owners) are the same people who complain that there are no good used AE86's, S14's, Supras, or Z34's left that havent been modified. Finding an original unmolested car can be near impossible for these types of cars.
So if they're only going to make a few thousand per year, should we modify as goodies come to the aftermarket, or save the car as a pure well kept example? (I think many people now save the original parts when they mod their car, but some mods are irreversible.) |
Don't do anything irreversible. That's my plan.

I'm just scared that the lack of production will kill any chances of decent aftermarket support. Although, knowing Subaru, this engine will be around for a few decades so most companies will likely see long term value in developing parts for it.

Who cares??? Looks like they are only making 1000 per year... So you wont get one in the first place to modify... LOL at least that was the "FACT FROM JAPAN" we got.

I plan on modding mine. I like my cars a certain way and no matter if it's a limited production run or not, that won't stop me.
|
Yes, but if you DO wait 18 months with a deposit to get one - do you dare mod it? ;)
I'll add WRX's to the list too - they made a ton but everyone mods them, myself included. |
I don't believe the supposed production figures, even if they were for each model. I think they'll makes as much as they can sell. Initial numbers may be low to create a type of frenzy, but after that I don't see any limit in production.

I already put down a deposit at the scion dealership, so I am at the top of the list there. I have dealt with them before and plan on paying with cash so I don't foresee an issue. My warranty's tend to be voided due to the mods I do also, so no problems here.

I do not believe in limited quantity. There should have been some misunderstanding. The car is has not yet been 100 % revealed, there are already so many of them in the pics we have. A limited production car does not have so many cars available. For intance how many of these did you see at lunch: M3 GTS, M3 CRT, R8 GT, WRX STI Spec C, C AMG BS, 911 GT3 RS 4.0, One-77,....Even for the lunch of the 1 Series M, which is not limited in numbers there were only three of them.
