Demo cars...

So, the only FR-S in my area worth anything is the first one the dealer got and has been using as a demo.

They said "price reduced" to 24,000 with over 2,000 miles on it.

I know technically it's not a "used" car (even they're being listed at new prices) but to me it seems to be something the dealer wants to rid itself of before the end of the year.

Anyone here pick up a "demo" FR-S?

Dealer seems very eager to move it, I think timing is on my side to get a killer deal with the end of the year coming up. I'm not afraid to walk away and wait a year though, but if I can get a good deal I'll take advantage of it....and rid myself of my BMW.

Thoughts?

That car has probably been beat on pretty good in the first 2k miles i'd pass.

perhaps ask for a warranty extension free of charge?

If you're going to pay anythign remotely close to new car price, I would not bother with the demo car. At least with a used car, the person who would have put that 2k miles on it would have owned it, and cared about the condition of it. But most likely, the people joy riding around in that didn't have any such reservations.

I'm a cheap person, lol, so I'll do whatever to get a good deal. Demo cars don't scare me if I can get a good deal.

Warranty I'm not worried too much about. I'm used to driving old, high mileage BMWs. Standard period, even with the 2000 mile chunk used up, is fine with me.

I figure if something breaks, warranty anyways. I'm not planning on modding the car. I genuinely like how it is stock (a rare thing for me).

2,000 miles of demo is a lot, just like their asking price.

I'd pass for all the reasons previous posters have stated

Unless they come down a considerable amount, at least to invoice (or below) I'll walk. I'm not afraid to. I'll just order a new one for 2014. Only real reason I'd want this one is for this year's auto-x season in the spring. The BMWs aren't cutting it anymore.

I paid $23,950 out the door for my fr-s brand new... so 24k is not good with 2k miles on it...

even though you might be "first" owner, you have to make sure you get a "used" price, so i would say 21k is a fair price

Exactly. I was going to shoot for $20k. They got use out of the car selling others, so the $4k there ($2k below invoice), was them using the car to make money on selling other cars.

I am on the side with everyone else posting. I can guarantee those 2k miles aren't generous cruising grandma miles.

24,000 isn't anything close to a steal and you also have to ask yourself if there is anything you plan on replacing immediately with after market parts. Id maybe settle on 22 and the free extended warranty just so you don't have to mess with anything

I got mine as a demo. No issues yet and im at 11k. Mine was driven by some senior exec. I'm sure it was beat on but w/e the warranty lasts till 100k

ahausheer 12-13-2012 04:36 PM

Forget it. I drove a demo at the OC auto show. The scion rep came along for the ride and said the previous driver kept it at red-line nearly the entire drive. The Scion rep told me people beat the shit out it literally like they are trying to break it.

I bought lot's of used car in my life and never really had issues, and you never know how the previous 100 000 miles were ridden.

You get a discount and a 5 years powertrain warrenty..to me that sounds like a deal
