DIY License Plate Relocation

hey so where i live the cops are kind of strict and like to pull people over for stupid things, so i decided to remove one reason for a cop to stop me.

i wanted to mount the plate at the tow hook attachment, but i couldn't justify the cost of the LP relocators. i searched around and saw someone who did this to a scion xB and decided that it couldn't hurt to try it

i'm going to paint the bolts/wahers/nuts black...too lazy to do it tonight

i spent a whopping $1.65 for:

2x 5" Carriage Bolts
4x Fender Washers
8x Nuts (i actually need two more)

what do ya'll think? look decent enough? or should i get shorter bolts

That looks pretty decent for $1.65. Does it rattle and has it come loose so far?

I would be concerned about the plastic grille being strong enough, especially at highway speeds.

Shorter? I think you should get longer ones. Maybe 2 feet?

I recommend that you invest in a proper tow-hook LP relocator kit... This doesn't look like it'll hold.

I agree with dajo. Its bound to come loose and fall off. Happened to my friend once

1) not bad, I had a similar set-up on my previous car, but I would shorten how far that plate is sitting from the car.

2) If you ever plan on going through an automatic car wash, you're going to have to take that off or remove the lower grille. And don't let anyone take it through an automatic car-wash at the dealerships or anything like that.

i took it off this morning, didnt want to risk it. my uncle suggest i used nylocs so i bought some they're 1.88$ for 2. gonna put them on before i leave from work.. i have a 45 minute drive home..i'll let y'all know what happens

Why'd you make it stick so far out?

I'd sorten it up as close to the grille as possible.

ninjasaurusrex 12-14-2012 04:23 PM

i wanted the plate as far right of the bumper as i could get it. i may just put it closer to the grille.
