Backing up....

Anyone buy a back-up cam set up?

NickFRS 12-13-2012 12:28 AM

Invest in a back up camera.

practice.

Keep getting out of the car and check.

After several times you will become an expert.

Backing up is a pita especially with tint.. backup cam is worth the price and 3 hour install (w/brz monitor).

The only visibility I'd consider poor is the left rear quarter panel. Backing up shouldn't be much of an issue...

i was thinking about getting a back up cam except mounting it up front behind the grill mesh. the rear is easy enough to see and guess but those concrete parking blocks are hard to see. Ive scraped the underneath of my front lip on one already.

I scratched my rims backing up :/
biggest mistake of my life lol

Wow, gotta love the people who are so awesome at everything knocking someone for wanting a little added security for their ride...way to be asshats. A back up camera is 100% useful. All your "spatial awareness amounts to jack shit when some kid on a tricycle is behind you and you run them down because you're a pro at backing up. I own and drive a Nissan Titan as well as my FRS and I can say without a doubt that it's easier to reverse park my crew cab Titan than it is to back my FRS up...and I've been driving sports cars since 1996.

To the OP, a back up cam is a wise investment, don't listen to the self proclaimed pro's especially ones that don't own this car. I plan on installing one on mine when I find a camera that I like and can be mounted in the triangle. Until then I angle my sideview mirrors down so i can see curbs because I don't trust my "spatial awareness" to keep me from rashing my wheels.

well if you have the BRZ, you can just add the camera from any other subaru that has the camera since it's compatible with the navigation unit.

I do know someone with an FR-S with one but his is an aftermarket Pioneer setup

im not sure how you can come at someone for stating that its invaluable to understand the physical location of your car in relation to your surroundings in one sentance, and talk about almost running over a kid on a tricycle in the other. If your aware of your cars spatial dimension in relation to surroundings, such an event wouldnt happen.

On a side note, heres a novel idea, teach your kid not to ride his tricycle behind cars.

This has to be one of the easiest cars to park and back up. Going from an '02 Camaro SS to parking this is a huge change. No longer have to worry about my rear sticking out or nudging a car with the long nose!

I have horrible depth perception so I would love to have one. My dad parks behind me so I tapped his truck once. I just park differently now so I don't have to worry about it.

I might do it if the cost is low enough.

All I know is everytime I think backup I get paranoid and worried that I'm about to hit the bumper, I get out and check to see at least another 15'' of space...

I've got a sure-fire solution for this:

Just stop like 2' short of the parking block every time. The car is so short that you still won't be hanging out of the spot :D
