Hood dampers: Greddy's badass carbon fibers vs Grimspeed's badass prototypes?

I am torn between the two. Greddy has some badass looking carbon fiber hood dampers and I plan on getting more carbon fiber on my car, so it would match perfectly. They are a little expensive, but you almost always pay more for carbon fiber..

Grimspeed is also making some hood dampers, but I don't believe they will be in carbon fiber since they never mentioned anything about it. Grimspeed's prototype hood damper's are supposedly "better" according to the video below. Also, Grimmspeed's planning on doing a group buy on these, so I'd be able to get more bang for my buck!

Does anyone have the carbon fiber hood dampers and can vouch for their reliability and functionality? I'm leaning more on Grimmspeed, simply because function>aesthetic...

Greddy ones are solid. Have them on our car.

Can anyone confirm that "that other kit" is the greddy hood dampers, coz there are other kits on the market.

I guess a easy way to test would be to do what is shown in the youtube video and to check the fully open angle, coz 35 degrees is not really good enough!!!

I'm on grimmspeed for their service. If the greddy fail, I go send them in. Hope, right?

If grim speeds fail, I send them to Matt personally. This is a case of where a smaller firm is as good or better than a big name.

This is a question that seems to be coming up pretty often, so we'll go ahead and address it. With each product that we manufacture, we conduct relatively extensive market research regarding pricing and design. As far as we can tell, the Greddy and Gimmick kits are identical. With respect to the 'carbon' struts, it appears to be just a carbon tube slipped over a smaller strut body. Here's a photo of the Gimmick kit that we tested. We're confident that the Greddy and Gimmick kits are identical, but if somebody has the Greddy kit and would like us to test it in a similar fashion, send it our way. We'll send you a GrimmSpeed prototype kit in return with a satisfaction guarantee.

For reference, here are some links/photos we have stashed away in our research.

We'll let you guys continue your discussion here, but if you've got questions regarding our kit, post up in our thread or give us a call! We'll be starting a group buy list shortly!

They look very similar. We have a couple Greddy units here. Might have to order in a Gimmick and see what the changes are.

A couple things missing already between the two in just the photos, but mostly in stall hardware.

GrimmSpeed 12-13-2012 01:55 PM

If you've got a kit in stock, could you let us know what's missing from the Greddy kit in the photo? The Gimmick kit includes the grease, qtip and small clips that are not pictured in their photo. The only difference we can see is the two replacement bolts for your hood hinges.

I should mention that the purpose of our internal market research is to understand the essence of the product, not necessarily split hairs over a couple of extra fasteners. As far as our purposes go, these two kits are identical in quality and function and only differ in price. Your purposes may obviously vary.

Bumpin this since companies are getting the greddy ones in stock. Did you'd end up doing a comparison? Is there one kind of sticker font companies use because that's a dead give away.
