Track: Palmer Motorsports
Car: 17 BRZ stock
Comments: For those that have driven Palmer, you have to try clockwise in the future. SCDA did it clockwise for their last event of the season there and I actually liked it better. Turn 4 & 5 which was difficult for me uphill, feels so much better down hill. Also ending the front straight going up through turn 14 and 13 is far better than ending the front straight in turn 1.
They did not renumber the turns for this event, so the turns are descending order.

MOVIN'! Seriously fast stuff, Robbie. Nice work.
I'm surprised you leave it in third gear going into T10. I'm bouncing off the limiter there.
Also, you leave it in third going through T11. I've started to downshift to second there based on our earlier discussions. Something tells me you're getting better grip than I am.
How fast are you going through T4? The best I've managed is 74 or 75. But anything over 71 there is a little pucker for me.
It's amazing to me how many different ways there are to shift on that track in these cars without one option being far superior than others.

Hey Pat, I’ve waffled between 2nd and 3rd in that corner and turn 2. It feels faster on exit to shift to second, but looking at data, there’s not a lot to be had at the speed I can manage through those corners and it makes the car less sketchy and I’m less likely to bang the limiter coming out.

Most of the time I’m doing between 74-77 through 4. I think I can still get more out of it. I just need to sack up and do it!

Being behind you in that last session was interesting seeing your lines into 6 and 11. I may try them and see if there’s anything there! Always fun to see you out at the track!

I've been playing with my lines through 6 and 11 all year. I'd like to leave it in third through both of them, but am still in the torque dip just a little bit by track out, so I've been experimenting with second gear through both. If I can drive a defensive race line through six and get the heel/toe just right I think that's fastest. But I never bothered learning to heel/toe, so I'm inconsistent with it, and it is much harder on the car. I'd rather just buy a little more grip and not deal with it.
By the exit of turn 11 I'm at the rev limiter in second. I think that's fastest, but again, harder on the car due to my poor heel/toe technique. Maybe it's time for some auto-blip programming!:burnrubber:
Or, I suppose, I could just become a better driver. :D

Nice! Is your car otherwise stock? I ran high 2:08's the only time I had my BRZ out there. But, I have suspension + bolt-ons and a tune (video on previous page).

I need to not be conservative and shift into 5th on the back straight. Probably losing a lot of time there.

Hey Justin, the car is making stock power right now. Shifting into 5th will help lap times a lot. I only drop to 4th for turn 4 and focus on carrying as much speed through the corner as possible.

I shift to fifth gear, then leave it there through T4. We're at our maximum lateral grip through there, so it's not like we need any extra power. Besides, if you carry enough speed through 4 you barely have enough time to get right and set up for 5. I shift from fifth to third just before turning into 5. It saves a shift and allows me to concentrate on my braking and line going through the highest-speed turn on the track.
Well, that's what I tell myself. Maybe I'm just lazy.:D

Went to watkins for the second time, beat my last time by over 7 seconds. Turn 6 is still iffy for me.

I was running brand new 255/40-17 RE71r's and managed a new personal best of 1:24.7 during the SCCA Club Trials. Temps were in the low 50's and there was plenty of rubber from the Winter Festival Club Races, so conditions were great. My Garmin Virb had the GPS signal wander a bit during the lap, so my overlay is a bit off but since it was a club trial I had a transponder for times (luckily). I'm going to have to invest in an Aim unit in the future.

Fastest lap starts at 3:53.

Other than OE brake pads, it performed pretty well and I was able to stay in the 1:18 lap time range.

Aero

- Trackspec hood vents
- SARD LSR

Other

- Ptuning EL header (I got it before ACE header came out), ACE front pipe
- TWS 18" T66F wheels wrapped in 255 Bridgestone RE71R
- Jackson Racing oil cooler

You guys need to get back to HPR on the new pavement. Between that, switching to Nexens, and adding a front bar, my otherwise stock BRZ dropped a few 2:09.3's today. Track was super fast. That's compared to my 2:11.3 last fall for a TNIA event there, stock front bar, RE71Rs.

I went back in February and didn’t drive particularly well and only matched my times from last year. I don’t think the tires have lost any grip. I’ll be seeing how things progress this year. Many more days out planned.

Good job for you! Stock size tires?

Tires are 235/45/17's. Nexen SUR4G's this time, last time was RE71Rs. I think 225 Nexens would be faster, they don't like to be pinched. But, this is an autocross car and I need the taller tire for gearing.

Lots of cars faster than us in this group...and a Nascar stock car, was a fun few laps before the session ended! I don't typically run a lap timer, but borrowed Dave's Solo and recorded a 2:43:89 on the 2nd to the last lap, was pretty stoked about that.
