GI: Toyota Car Corral for Rolex Grand Am at Mid-Ohio June 14th-16th 2013

I am posting this to see if there is any interest in setting up a Toyota Car Corral for the Grand Am race this coming June. The benefits are reduced ticket prices. $40 advanced which would include weekend pass, pit pass, preferred infield parking and a lap of the track (time permitting).
Other marques that are already set up with car corrals are:
Porsche
Mustang
Mazda
Corvette
Camaro/Firebird

With the FR-S scheduled to compete in the new GX class and the Continental Challenge Street Tuning class there will again be a Toyota car worth rooting for. We would need a commitment from 15-20 owners in order to secure a corral. We could also plan a BBQ for lunch. I will post this on Spyderchat forum also to help get enough interest for us to qualify by including MR2s and MR-S. Supra, Celica and BRZ all welcome of course.

I might be interested as I haven't been in a few years. I've never parked in a corral before so that could be interesting and $40 for the weekend can't be beat.

Will be a fun year for Mid-Ohio with Nascar being on the ticket there this year and a week after, or before can't remember, this race.

I will be there working that weekend, so I will stop by and hang out. Maybe park the car over there as well.

I may be interested and will have my FRS by then, although the last time I was there was when I crashed my Z into a tire-wall on the inside of turn 1 :(

They had a BRZ crash same area and a C6 Z06 aswell. That corner is a fun one. I put mine into the gravel pit at the key hole. Forgot the car had ABS. haha.

This sounds awesome, I'm definitely interested in finding out more info/specifics!

Someone asked when this has to be finalized. The deadline for the discount tickets is May 3rd. However, I would have to give my contact at the track a head count well before that so we could secure our space. There is plenty of time. I just wanted to get this out there early so people can mark their calendars and plan for this if they are interested.

Also the lap of the track is a parade lap not a competition lap. It is more of a mobile car show for the fans and a chance for the car owners to drive the track (not at speed).

Hey Rampage, the thing that most excites me about this is the lap of the track. I realize this is a parade lap but after going to events for years at Mid Ohio I'd love to cruise around it one time. Is the parade lap a given? I noticed you posted something about "time permitting", also, would we be allowed to take a passenger for the lap? Thanks for setting this up, sounds like a great time!

Rampage 12-11-2012 09:39 PM

Passengers are allowed for the parade lap. The lap is not guaranteed. If the program gets behind schedule they could cancel it. Normally, it is done during the lunch period. They will try to get all the clubs (corrals) out there if they possibly can.

Slightly off topic, if you guys are looking into some track time with your car in a safe environment, please contact me. I am a instructor for SCCA PDX events at Mid-Ohio for the OVR.

You can count me in I think that would be a great fun weekend. Besides I can't wait to get my car out of storage it has been killing me. So far this winter I have been driving a F 150, an expedition and a Ford Excursion. I'm sure by the time I get my small car back I will feel like I'm driving a go kart.

Hey Scooter, can you shoot me a PM with details of what you are talking about? I am interested.

Thanks,
Tim

When we get closer, say around the beginning of March, I will take a head count from the various forums where I have this posted and see if we have enough cars and people signed up to qualify. The only problem with waiting is that if you want a hotel room near the track you probably need to book now. They just announced the race dates on December 3rd but from past experience I can tell you all the hotels/motels in the area book up fast. Here is link to the Mid-Ohio website. You can Google for hotels near the track which is located a few miles off of Interstate 71 just south of Mansfield Oh.

I can tell you that right now it is looking like we would get a good turn out of Toyota(and BRZ) sports cars.

Any update on if we can get track time when we are down there? When I was a kid I used to go and watch the Can Am series all the time it is a great tack , I'd love to go back.
