Perrin or Greddy cat back exhaust

Hi all, I am sure this has been beaten up already but I was wondering what people thoughts on the Perrin cat back exhaust and the Greddy Evo 3 cat back exhaust are.

I see a lot of people going with the Perrin and selling other exhausts. Perrin has the 8-10 Hp gain with a 2.5" piping and a good piece together option for header back.

The Greddy is a 2.7" piping, I havent been able to see the Hp gain for this yet.

I just want to know why people are making the choices they are to go with the Perrin and the Greddy.

Perrin has an active presence on the forums here and do a lot of R&D with their products and talk with their customers. I don't hear a single word from anything regarding Greddy... except for the fact it has a nasty drone to it from the posts I've seen.

Everyone has their flavor of exhaust, whether it's sound, flow design, or simply just brand loyalty. Perrin is a great company and I'll most likely end up getting something from them at some point. You'll get great support from those guys.

Edit: Might want to move this thread to the exhaust/ecu section. :)

I ordered a Perrin from Sam Strano. He has always steered me right on my Mustang and runs a Perrin on his own car.

My understanding of cat back exhausts under 850 will produce about the same HP, obviously there are exceptions but overall its safe to say 6-8whp 4-6lbtq. As for build quality, I think its safe to say that most brands offered in the commercial classified are good. (obviously there are some that have less than positive reviews, but I wont speak to that)

As for midpipes, I've seen no difference in power numbers, and once again build quality differs from brand to brand, but overall I've read nothing negative about any brand other than some fitment issues.

greddy evo 3 = drone

I would recommend perrin non-resonated. Just installed it on my car last week and it sounds great. No drone and it almost completely has that wrx rumble, just a little bit smoother.

Greddy/Trust also does a lot of R&D. But do not mistake their absence from the forums as a bad sign.

It's obvious by looking at them that they are two different types of exhaust designs. You gotta ask yourself which you like better as their are drawbacks to both designs. That being said you do get more options with Perrin and it has been proven to make the most HP via independent testing.

BTW: the Greddy/Trust makes ~7-9hp but currently has no header back option and is strictly cat-back.

I just got my Perrin non-resonated catback and I love it. Nice and loud at startup and when you load the throttle, especially in first and second gear. Other than that it's pretty quiet. Not really sure if it "drones" but if you're loading the throttle during highway cruising you can hear the exhaust a little bit, but it's never invasive. You can definitely feel power and torque gains. I can't say enough good things about this exhaust. Also, Perrin is made in the USA, whereas Greddy is made in China. Not knocking Greddy, just stoked Perrin manufactures in the US.

really?? any evidence to support that?

pretty sure trust is made in japan

and greddy usa outsources stuff from local US manufacturers

Perrin...they seem to be specialists in Subaru and are very respected. @FR-S Matt has a point about the Perrin folks being on this forum and interacting with their customers. Greddy is nowhere to be found. I have the Perrin cat back and I love it. I took it up to a meet back in September and a bunch of people asked me to turn it on and so many of them heard it and said then and there this was the exhaust for them.

I've got the perrin headerback. and I love everything about it. no drone, loud when I want it to be, quiet when I want it to be. got a couple of sound clips in my sig.

Thanks for all the great replies all.

Has anyone got the Perrin Header back that put a turbo on? I would love to see how it performs with a turbo.

That was my thinking is that if I do turbo it the Greddy is 2.7" pipping compared to the 2.5"

Mine's getting supercharged!
