Tyre Pressures/Fuel Consumption
Now the bulk of us have the stock rims for now but some have taken the plunge and gone to bigger/wider rims. I've noticed that if the stock 16" tyres that I have are not pumped to the recommended 240kPA there is a noticeable detriment to fuel consumption no matter how nicely you drive?
Anyone else noticed this. While these are performance cars, I'm curious to see what kind of consumption everyone is getting. My figures are poor due to sitting in traffic a lot lately - 8 - 9l/100km and some "spirited" driving... :burnrubber: And another (possibly pointless) question, what is the default display everyone likes to have on most of the time - actual consumption, average consumption or the odo/trip meters/outside temperature? |

I set mine on odo reading ... dont like to see my consumption.:mad0260: |
Around 9.5-9.9/100km and instant consumption on the display.

I check my tyre pressures weekly, should be a habit... :happyanim::lol:
Being at the coast the 86 performs better, so under normal economical driving I get 6.5 to 7 l/100 and then pushing go up to 8.8to 9l/100. Stay on the average cons and watch the road :confused0068: Did you not get hit the other day, was this cause you were watching your trip display. Hehhehehehhehee. |
I prefer to slightly over inflate my tires (it does makes some different on rolling resistance), but my winter tires are at the 36 psi recommended pressure so far...I'll see how they works out when it actually SNOWS, grrr. Winter is bad in everyway for fuel consumption, winter blend gas and cold temperature = the suck

The computer is not 100% accurate though, it under reads by roughly 0.4-0.5l/100km. |
Regarding the wheels and tyres.
I just read a article that indicates the 16" wheels on the std 86, is better performing and a more comfortable ride than the 17". I wonder what is the best size for the 86? Giving both handling and comfort.... |

I find tyres with a bit of a profile give you excellent feedback through the steering and seat of the pants feel in my experience. |

I average around 9.5l/100km, can't get it any less, I have a heavy right foot, lol
