Auto-Off Headlamps

Hello! I had a question regarding the auto-off headlamps feature. I can't seem to get the headlights to turn off automatically.

I read the manual and there doesn't seem to be any mention of having to click lock twice on the key or anything.

The website clearly says under features that it has Project beam headlamps with auto-off (Under the exterior section) - http://www.scion.com/cars/FR-S/features/

Any thoughts?

They turn off after switching the engine off and opening the drivers door. :)

The US and Canadian version does not have auto off. the info found on the site is a misprint or the dealership doesn't know what they're talking about

In Canada, only the BRZ has this function and I believe the JDM/EDM Toyota 86/GT86 also.

They lights will turn off automatically after a certain time if you leave it in "Auto"...

I think around 45 seconds or something after the engine has shut off...

I personally haven't used this feature enough because I park in a garage...

In the US of A, only the BRZ limited has Auto lights.

Yep, that's why there's a beep when you leave your lights on and open the door; to remind you to turn them off!

Nope, no auto off and it's ridiculous. I've said it before (but I'll say it again), my '87 Celica had auto-off headlights. It was simply the same switch that turned the dome light on when you open the door. It's not rocket surgery, I don't understand why this is not as common as a glove box. I don't need the lights to stay on for twenty seconds and then gradually fade out. Just let them click off when the door opens if I've forgotten.

Not true, the Premium has it as well.

Also to those with the BRZ, if you hit the lock button twice on the fob the lights will turn off instantly.

I stand corrected :w00t:

About the lights turning off instantly, you can also use Toyota Techstream and change the setting so the lights turn off instantly.

is the auto off function a part of the light stalk itself? I know the FR-S uses the same stalk as my old 2006 Tacoma did, and the Tacoma had the auto-off. If that's the case then you could just plug in the stalk module from an old truck and get auto-off :D

But I'm not sure how it works :(

Even for the BRZ? That's pretty cool...

Yes, I bought one off ebay and it works like a charm.

Look in your area to see if someone has bought it and can quickly change the setting for you. The dealer can do it for you too, but this saves you the time to do an appointment, go in, wait for them etc... Or buy it on ebay for about $30. Search for Toyota TIS Techstream.

If you leave the lights on 'auto' and shut the car off, the lights should turn off in a minute. If you have the lights on 'auto', shut the car off and do not remove your key from the ignition, the lights will not automatically turn themselves off.
