hard shifting in sport mode AT

Hello all, I was accelerating onto the highway today in sport mode and had to let off of the pedal because another car was moving into my lane ahead of me, the transmission kicked kinda hard downshifting. Is this normal? I know in my mazda 3 it would do this if it was getting ready to go into a higher gear and you suddenly let off.

Yeah I can manipulate the shifting with the throttle. It reminds me of the B&M kit I helped a friend put in his 454 c1500

Is it reproducible? One-off things are always abnormal, but because they only happen once, future occurrence doesn't matter.

This is how I use my brain.

Ya couldn't put the pedal down harder and pass them, huh? Doesnt seem like anything too bad could have happened.

Some times the car shift like a greased ape some times it just shift? I ordered the whiteline tranny bushing, I'll see if it changes it's current behavior.

The trans shifts hard sometimes, I think we're all just hyperaware of whats going on with our cars. Any serious trans problems should throw a cel code (correct me if i'm wrong)

did you press the brake pedal? The car will auto blip in sport mode when braking to put you in the correct rpm range as you slow down

I have been noticing a similar, yet different problem with my FR-S AT.

If I hold the pedal at a certain spot any old spot, just hold it at the exact same on for a duration of time) I expect the gears to shift in a roughly time sequential manner, I.E 2 sec though first, 2.5 through second, 3 through third, 4 through 4th, etc.

What I find happening sometimes though, is that It shifts really randomly, eg 3 sec through first, 1.5 trough 2nd, 3 through third, 1 through 4th, etc. not any particular "standard sequence". I am not very familiar with how an AT works, but I would think that this is not normal. Remember also, I am holding the throttle at the exact same spot through all the gears, and it never does this near or at WOT, only at 1/4-3/4 throttle.

If I need a new thread on this, I can start it up, and sorry for jacking this one, but I saw an "odd shifting in AT" thread and thought it might be sufficiently related.

I beleive is normal, Did it when i test drove the car, and now does it on my own.
Both in Acc and slowing down the sports mode makes hard shifts as you would if driving hard on a Manual.
hey just my 2 cents.
Dont know any better

Waaaaay to many variables to have your algorithm work like you expect it every time. What exactly is the problem though? Not shifting when you want it to, seems like you got the wrong transmission.

This is the Dynamic Rev Matching system they have installed. Yes, it does hard down shifts and yea, its normal. What I noticed is it downshifts hard, when you're driving hard so that the car keeps up with you... as someone mentioned, like you would be doing when driving hard in a manual.

I love the system but I also don't know how it works exactly, but its definitely nothing to be worried at all. Its designed this way.
