Backfire Intake

I got some wierd sound from the intake and some chirp too. I got 16 000km
in 4 months since buying it. The car is out for repair for 2 weeks now and
they can't find anything. It appears that they never saw this!

What do you think?

Watch the video:

if you put the stock intake back on does the sound go away?

SSchifko 12-07-2012 10:30 AM

That sounds terrible. Figure it out quickly before it ends up being catastrophic.

I wish I could give some pointers, but no idea on that one. Not sure that it's caused by the intake though.

I've not made any mod, so the intake is stock. The only thing that the dealer have said to me in 2 weeks it's that probably too much gas when fire, so
that explode in the intake. They change the ecu, try another injection module. Change my gas and made my oil change just to be sure. They have not open anything in the engine yet. They said to me that absolutly don't know what to do. Good job guys!

I'm not going to watch the video but I can tell you if you have an intake installed without a tune you are potentially damaging your engine.

Watch it, it's worth it.

I can't beleive the dealer let you drive home with that car by the way. This should be fixed.

Just watched it. Oh man.

Post this in the Engine/Exhaust/ECU sub forum

When that happen the first time, i've stop using the car immidiatly. The monday morning i bring the car to the dealer and they didn't have a spair car for me, so they let my drive the car for a weeks. But now it's been 2 weeks in the dealer and nothing new so far.

The sound come just below the 4k rpm but not after. I need to tap the pedal for this to happen, if i go smootlhy then no sound.

It is a stock car! He doesn't have a after market intake. If he did the dealer would say that's what is causing it.

There's another thread here where users are experiencing a similar sound (albeit, a much milder case, and not in multiples like you're hearing). I wonder if they're related or if your issue is indicative of what they can expect from their cars if the issue worsens?

here's the thread in question: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23043

You should bring you car to a different dealer and alert Scion USA right away. That is unacceptable.

I've just read that thread, i will ask the dealer for the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) issue.

Just to add some info on my problem, i don't have CEL issue either.

I've already call Toyota Canada and they said that until they find what is
causing the problem it's the dealership responsability to diagnostic the car.

I've made a complaint for poor service cause they are not returning my phone call and they are not giving me news for days. I need to go there to talk to the service director.

Never had problem with my Honda for years!
