unichip

Does anyone have any experience with this? I've been considering one of these mapped for my COA and CATBACK.

I'm by no means an automotive guru so please speak to me in lay terms.

Superficially this doesn't seem like a bad option when considering I don't plan on moding the engine too much beyond that....but it does allow for additional tuning should I decide to turbo or supercharge.*Thoughts?

I would stick with Either the Viscanti tune, or one of the other ones on this forum. These are way more advanced tunes and are actually tuned with each parts you would ever consider installing. What is unichip asking for a "tune/chip"?

Unichip for FR-S with "plug n play" harness and without display mapped for the air raid Coa with "any" catback exhaust is US $450 before shipping

"Claims" up to 12 HP.

I know someone on this forum has it. I just can't remember who.

That's too bad. I'd sure love to pick their brain on it.

I had one on my 350Z and was pretty unhappy with it. Could it have been the reason my head gasket blew at 77,000 miles? I don't know. But it didn't feel like it made any power.

So, they are saying you could make 12 hp, but you could also make 2hp... Thats why i don't like off the shelf stuff like this. As i said, your guaranteed a great tune for "your" car and the way it behaves. Just save the lil bit of extra money and go with one of the tuners that actually spend shit loads of time on tuning these cars daily. Trust me, you will not regret it man.

For half that you could get 30hp with an e85 tune. Or for 50 less you could get 20hp on pump gas. Plus you get the cool race Rom features.

Check the other threads on it. It's still emerging but looks to have some proven results. Seems still early but there are some advantages over the other tunes. It's cheaper, plug and play, and you can sell it if you're not using it. It seems the best tuners of this car are using Ecutek though. I ordered my unichip, looking forward to it.

Yeah....I bought it a couple days after I posted. Haven't installed it yet. No hurry though. My car is stored for the winter.
