Seibon Carbon Fiber OEM Hood Install w/ Weight Comparison and PICS!

Just received my Seibon CF OEM Hood yesterday (12/5/2012) and OH MAN does this thing make an FR-S look sexy.. Bought it on Black Friday from FT86speedfactory for $594 shipped, which I think is a fantastic deal. The main reason I purchased it was because there was a hail storm in my area back in September- within the first month of ownership, I had 12-18 dents on my hood (damn weak aluminum). Geico gave me $430 to cover the repairs... This hood now repairs the constant aching in my heart I experienced whenever I saw the dents on my brand new car.

Within the past month I added on Toyota emblems and blacked out my headlights (thanks to DrivinDarren's DIY). I also installed a Morimoto 5k HID kit with Concept Three's DRL LEDs and turnsignal switchback LEDs. There are also a set of gold Enkei RPF1's.

Anyway, I weighed the hoods and as you can see, there are no weight savings benefits from switching to a carbon fiber hood. The stock aluminum hood is already light as hell.

Stock OEM Hood Weight- 15.4lbs
Seibon OEM CF Hood Weight- 15.2lbs

ENJOY THE PICS!

We kind of figured there wouldn't be much weight savings for wet carbon, but thanks for weighing them both and proving it. :thanks:

That said, it looks great on your car!

Do you have any underside pics? What type of material is the frame?

Thanks.

Lol, your girlfreind looks excited.... Looks pretty dope, I'm not usually a fan of unpainted carbon.

I wanna see a CF hood on a firestorm, been looking through member's journals and have yet to see one... :(

What size are your RPF1's? those rims always confuse me because some have straight spokes and some have curved *like yours

Also your car is sexy. so so sexy

Does seibon offer painting or wrapping? And could you still get the same weave pattern?

Even thought it weighs about the same, I bet it's a lot more resilient to hail than the stock aluminum one is :D

Seibon strikes me more as a show piece rather than function piece. Even with the wet layup process, I think they should be able to get it down to the 12-13 lb range.
