Question on drilling new holes

So im dead set on getting enkei rpf1's on my FRS. The size i want is either 17" or 18" and 9" wide. The issue is they dont make our bolt pattern for this size. A friend told me that I could take the wheels to a local shop and have them drill new holes so in total i will have 5x100 and 5x114. My question is will this cause any issue with the wheel?

I'm pretty sure there is a group buy on 17x9 +35 offset 5x100 RPF1's right now.

This certainly sounds like a bad idea. I would imagine it could cause structural issues to the rim .... to have holes in locations that the manufacturer had not intended holes to be....

Rotiform and VR Wheels re-drill all the time, if you do it right it should be ok but still not something i would do unless it was impossible to get the wheel i wanted in the right bolt pattern. Even TireRack has 17x9 RPF1's so they aren't hard to get ;)

^^ Yeah, 17x9's are pretty easy to get anywhere. The only ones that are hard (or impossible) to find are the gunmetal wheels, but they're limited in any size/pattern.

Where are you guys finding 17x9 5x100 rpf1's on tirerack? The widest i could find for our pattern is 17x8.

I'm seeing them...

Enkei RPF1 in Bright Silver
17x9
$257
(each)
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 6.73"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size:245/40-17
Weight: 15.9lbs.

$279 each for the black version

I doubt this will work, but try this link: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...int&tab=wheels

There was also a few vendors on here that would be able to get them for you.

Just went to Tire Rack's website. My BRZ is saved in my TR profile. Searched for available wheels. Enkei RPF1s showed up in 17x9 in black, silver, and gold. 45mm offset. All three colors in stock in 17x9.

Change it to where you are viewing the wheels on your car?

I'm not being an elitist or purist or snobbish (at least I'm trying very hard not to be) here but OP really should educate his friend so that he doesn't give out advice that can potentially kill someone if the wheel flies off from improperly drilling holes.

This goes for a lot of things that people ghetto out on. Cut springs for example. If you can do it in the most correct way, don't do it at all.

Yea thats why I was asking. The moment he said it I was thinking would it affect the strength of the wheel.

Maybe an issue with your web browser? I just went back to the TR website, I put in 2013 FRS instead of BRZ, looked up wheels (by 17" and under 15 lbs) in both grid and vehicle view, and all three 17" sizes came up? Weird.
