Stock FR-S amp?
I don't really know much about car audio, but if I'm reading things right, the factory head unit in the FR-S is powered, then powered separately via the amp in the rear, right?
That being the case, can I remove the stock amp? I don't really know how ANYTHING is wired back there, but I can only imagine the amp weighs quite a bit. |

Incidentally, the back seats ARE going as well ;) |

Not sure what you are looking at that would be bigger. There may be some other electronic components elsewhere, but I would never recommend messing with anything electrical unless you know what it is first (and know what you are doing). You may want to post a pic and get it identified before you take it out. You may be removing something other than the amp. |

But, I believe we are talking about the same thing, as it IS in the trunk, just behind the seats on the driver's side. For some reason, I thought it was MUCH bigger :/ Side note, if it DOES turn out to be the amp, is it safe to remove? I mean, the stock head WILL work without it, right? Just less power? |

if you wanna pull it out to save a few pounds, you might as well remove the spare tire and all the tools w/ it. that'll save you 20-25 lbs

Yes, it stands to be only a couple of pounds in removing the amp, but that's what weight savings tends to be. A lot of small steps in order to accomplish a more significant weight savings. |

but hey if youre into saving weight then remove both! |

If you're removing the amp, you may as well remove the speakers they're powering and the wires, a few more pounds...
And since you removed the speakers, you probably dont need the plastic covers, or the interior door panel, or... yea why? You may as well strip the entire interior. |

Just incase ou miss understood;
I'm pretty sure you still want audio in your car. Removing your amp, will END all audio capabilities of your car, the HU will power up, but thats it, you won't have any sound output whatsoever if you remove the amp. If you Don't care about sound, well like stated above, remove you speakers and wirin aswell and also remove the HU probably a total sAvings of 15lbs with the amp. Lol |
