I used to work for Toyota ! If a dealer uses trade plates to drive a vehicle they run the risk of damaging it.

6km on the ODO when it arrived at the dealer.

Dealer said it will likely be 9 or 10km when I pick the car up. Will let you know the actual reading when I do pick the car up.

Most car's arrive at the dealer with sub 10km. If the dealer takes it for a pre purchase inspection and notices something, they may have to put on an extra few km.

I used to worry about this same thing, but honestly, if they thrash it, and they brake it, I would rather it happens before I take delivery than have a CEL issue pop up a week later. I will be checking the paint with a magnifying glass before driving off. :)

Anything under 20km I wouldn't bother questioning, but if you are paranoid like I was, ask to see the car the moment it arrives at the dealer. As in, before they can do anything to it.

All is at the discretion of the dealer. The service dept will check the vehicle to make sure it all appears OK, they will test drive it if they wish although it isn't necessary. Test drives would be kept to a bare minimum.

I would expect a dealer to road test every new car before handover to customers. It is actually part of the pre-delivery inspection process. How is it fueled without being driven. Cars are registered on the day of delivery so they will be moved on trade plates until the day of collection.

You have no idea. None, nudda, zip, zero, zilch. You get the idea. All cars from all brands are delivered running on fumes. You clearly were not at Toyota for long because everyone in the industry knows this.

I may be coming across as rude, but misinformation like you're giving here is misleading and foolish. Someone will believe it and it all snowballs from there.

by your statement above, if cars don't get filled up locally, shouldn't all cars be delivered with the same fuel level (unless the factory fill up random amounts in diff cars).

If there's 5 litres in the tank it would average 50k, agreed?

does that mean my first tank of gas is JDM100octane!

but my car was delivered with full tank of fuel, not 5L. and you said they don't get fueled up by the dealer.....

In the grand scheme of things 20kms is nothing. Most of you probably did more than 20kms in your first day of driving! I know I did. I bet if your car had 2kms when you drove away and then it broke down down the road you'd be exclaiming that this is an outrage and that the dealer should have test driven. Well... You can't have it both ways.

If it's damaged during this process, then it's a completely different story. But we're not talking about that.

Just fyi. I had something in the low 20s on the dial when I received mine.

If it doesn't you should cancel your order.

Actually, this raises a valid point, something I've been thinking about. Do we know if dealers typically put povvo petrol in for pickup (to save a few bucks) or do they put the premium stuff in? I've read it should be premium all the way with the 86, anyone had any experience of this?

Worth picking it up empty in my opinion so you can guarantee it has the top stuff for it's first full tank. Does it matter?
