FA20club.com E85 Preliminary Review

I got the E85 file yesterday and went to a local meet, took one of the members here on a test drive hopefully I can get him to post here also. I sent logs in around lunchtime and had another retouched file sent about 7pm. Just got to flash due to Internet issues, posting from my phone now.

Hard to describe the extra power but is there and noticeable, I had a gas gauge bug but it seems to have fixed itself. I will update when I have a few more miles on this file but I feel like I probably have one of the fastest n/a auto cars. It really puts your head back even when just in drive when you punch it there is no hesitation it just goes. Around town drivability is excellent as well no complaints as usual.

Completely agree. Paid for my tune, got my tune, put 50 miles on it and logged it. All in one night!!

Remember it takes about 50 miles of driving before the car is really dialed in. It pulls that's for sure. Puts your head in the back of your seat. Gotta get used to the auto blip, freaked me out a few times. God I love the power of this tune.

And I just got an email that they received my log file and want me to get a cold start log in the morning then they will send me a revised tune.

Now this is what I was expecting when dealing with a tuner!! Communications, expectations spelled out and transparency!!

Sent from my flux capacitor using Taptalk

Yeah I could really feel the first file getting dialed in today but had to reflash to the new one. Can't wait til this one gets there too it already feels better. Great service once again and he never stops until its right, even though it feels great the next tune after I send logs in is always even better. I don't exagerrate claims there are certain parts I really couldn't feel(crank pulley) but this one is worthwhile for sure.

How is FA20club's e85 tune on cold starts?

vubaru 12-04-2012 03:50 AM

Am kicking myself that I didn't get around to doing some logs and playing with FA20club's base tune tonight.

Tomorrow, it's first on my to do list after work :D

Hi everybody, I'm the "other member" mentioned in the first post, and I gotta say, the power was noticeable and immediate. Compared to my car, mine feels slow(er) now that I've taken a ride in Joe's car. Now, I must admit that he's also got a sweet exhaust and intake installed as well, and I hadn't ridden in his car before the tune, but all-in-all the car really feels more powerful. I'm officially jealous.

Great review guys. Thanks!

JoeBoxer, could you provide maybe a little more context on the difference in the stages of modifications you have done? I hate to ask you to post more, but I'm wondering about getting the E85 tune so also wondering which modifications along the way are making the biggest difference. So for example compare the feel of the car with intake and exhaust on 93 octane without tune (if you had that as a stage) to the intake and exhaust on 93 octane with the tune. And then finally to this latest addition of E85. That would be helpful for me as I plan my stages.

JoeBoxer 12-04-2012 10:09 AM

I have had the tune since before the intake and exhaust but it really came alive when adding the overpipe and intake this weekend.

First stage: Cosworth filter, Perrin Pulley, Motiv Test Pipe. Definite improvement over stock, decent sound for not changing the catback not raspy at all. Adding the tune to this helped a lot, but we weren't able to take full advantage of the tune without further mods.

Second stage: MXP exhaust, this alone seemed to make a pretty good change although i did not get tuned for it because i had the overpipe and intake tube on the way. I added the Perrin Intake and Filter the day before the Overpipe and could also feel a small change but probably should have got a new file immediately after. I installed the overpipe saturday and changed the oil to Motul 300v. Now on the pump gas tune it was running better than ever and even without the E85 i am happy with this level for a while. :)

Tank was low sunday and we have had very warm weather, it was 70 when i started my car this morning but i have had no problems starting at all. I thought i was burning through the E85 really fast but had a gas gauge bug that either Toni fixed or it fixed itself. Still have over a half tank, unfortunately i did not reset the trip meter when i filled up.

I wish i was local to more members because i would be happy to take some more test drives, i'm very happy with my choices no buyers remorse at all on any of it except maybe the crank pulley i think it may be better suited to manual trans cars. It's cheap though and relatively easy to install so might as well go for it.

cliff notes: Get the tune first, datalog as you change parts and get tuned for each part. Full exhaust and Perrin intake should be good for most. I can't recommend this exhaust setup enough, it isn't cheap but i know it's going to last.

Thanks James, i knew the Moshpit part but couldn't remember the number and was posting from my phone last night. :thanks:

I also have about a 32lb subwoofer in the trunk and heavier than stock wheel/tires, hoping to get the wheel weight part fixed soon.

Yes, map 4 is set up for E85 and maps 1-3 are pump gas. I turn the key to the on position, change to map 4 then start the car. It has been really warm here but i haven't had any troubles. When it gets colder i will stick to 93 octane because it's still way more fun than stock.

Has ECUTek worked out the bug with RaceRom not remembering which map you had between starts?

This is a problem if someone is on e85 and the default map (1) is 93.
