i have a question.. that are the specs on your wheels?

i have volk te37sl 18x8.5 35 offset in the front. does the rims clear the brembo?

I would think those would clear. I have 18x8 +42s.

Ok, Tut, love the work/look. I'm working on it as we speak. Did your used caliper set come with the original carriers/brackets to bolt up to the knuckle, or are you able to use the BRZ carriers?

There are no brackets for these; they mount using the dog-ears on the caliper. Spacing between boltholes on the dog-ears should be the same as the knuckle. Any brackets that came with your STI calipers are merely futile attempts by Subaru to make the calipers quieter.

The brackets are integrated into the structure of the caliper.

The circled portions are brackets that mount to the rear between the knuckle and caliper; they are harmonic dampeners that Subaru used in an attempt to make the calipers more livable.

Next question, are the brake lines the same or do I need to get a conversion kit?
(ie: is the Brembo side of the braided line different than the factory BRZ side?)

I used 04 STI brake lines on my WRX stock calipers....so YMMV. Don't know if the banjo is the same, but I'd venture it is. Buy aftermarket BRZ lines and see if they fit, if not...return or sell.

I used brake lines meant for the BRZ so that the lengths would be correct. I have never seen STI brake lines, so I didn't know if they would work. The banjo bolt and threads are the same for the Brembo calipers and OEM BRZ calipers, but the brake line won't line up like it is intended to on the calipers due to each caliper having different notches on the back of the caliper for the hard line to rest on.

Guys, I actually think there will be a possible weight-savings w/ lighter rotors. I did some math--hope this helps some of you...

The stock front calipers & caliper brackets are 11.6lbs--the STi caliper is 8.7. So, if you can find a rotor lighter than the stock 86 rotors 17lbs(Girodiscs are 16.5lbs), there'd be an overall weight-savings of abt 3.4lbs/corner.

On the rears, the STi calipers are 5.9lbs, compared to 5.8lbs stock--so a push, there. But the rotors would net you just over 2lbs/corner.
Total drop in rotational/unprung ~11lbs--not bad.

Granted, it's definitely pricier, but if you can come across all the parts used & priced right... Just throwing it out there. :thumbsup:

^2PC rotors are $700/pair and that's really the only way to drop mass from those heavy rotors. Once at that price point I'd just consider an aftermarket BBK made for the car; though I have yet to see one I like that is also good DD material.

Thanks for the write up this is the type of brake upgrade im looking to 4 piston front/2 rear. Is it possible to fleash out the steps more with pics and then pin it?

How hard woulod it be to get the STI logo off the calipers? I may go this route, but don't think the STI logo would look right on an FR-S.

The STI logo is painted on so you would have to sand it off or repaint over
