Baer front and rear brake kits

Not really shopping for brakes for myself yet but some of you guys might be interested. The description sure does focus a lot on cosmetics though.

to 70% of people they are..sad truth :/

Captain Snooze 12-02-2012 01:35 AM

This is sad but this is how I judge a car/driver going past me on the street. I look at the front brakes; if they are of decent size for the vehicle I then look for brake dust. If it has big brakes plus brake dust the driver has my respect. Other wise, I will think it is just for show. As czar07 said for many people they are just bling.

I have just read the link after posting the above paragraph. When their site says "Baer brings sexy to an already superb vehicle.", "This system compliments the look" and "This system is perfect for the enthusiast looking to fill his wheel with a nice modern, big brake!" I can't but help think they are only interested in show.

czar07 12-02-2012 02:19 AM

much rather AP brakes for that price

JoeBoxer 12-02-2012 02:34 AM

It really shows you the value you get with the AP kit, this one may be very nice but their marketing department of Baer needs to provide us with more tech specs and less adjectives.

chutrain 12-02-2012 02:51 AM

It's still good to see companies that generally don't do imports starting developing. This is looking good for us owners as there are more parts available, and hopefully a competitive market for parts.

For some reason I have this memory that Alcon makes the calipers for Baer. And Alcon is serious brakes, right up with AP and Brembo. I don't know if this is old, only their top end stuff, or just wrong. Stupid memory...

Water cooled Prodrive calipers by Alcon. Serious brakes are serious. Also some AP STI brakes.

JoeBoxer 12-02-2012 03:22 AM

Alcon is definitely premium stuff, i'm new to real high performance brakes but they are definitely a sensitive subject around here.

I don't like the rotors on this one being drilled and slotted, i would prefer just slotted only.

Dimman 12-02-2012 03:31 AM

Reading Baer's Technical bits, they look like they know what they are doing. Focus on caliper stiffness and cooling, staggered piston bores, available hard anodized, 6R are forged monoblock out of 2618 aluminum. Looks about a bazillion time better than a manufacturer in a certain recently locked thread...

But looks like domestics are their focus.

bpracer 12-02-2012 03:56 AM

Baer has been around a long time. I bought one of their SCCA A-sedan (Mustang Camaro series) brakes kits over 15 years ago. The rotors were a spec size: 12x.810" ! Yes, that was the front brake rotor not the rear...

14" rotors are to big IMHO for the amount of tire/horsepower these cars have.

gmookher 12-02-2012 12:45 PM

They have these on the Vortech car. Based on what they look like, sure, I'd buy them, finish looked top notch. I do think the wilwoods will come in cheaper, but not the same league. They did look 'big', and not sure bigger is always 'better' here.

I was pretty impressed by these results. Will likely go this route first:

White64Goat 12-02-2012 08:30 PM

That's an S-load of show for $3,400.........................

Nice results for sure, but you cannot tell from that how they would stand up to track abuse. I am cheap so will probably try this approach though. :D

What pad type do these use and are they available from all the big brands?

spitz 12-03-2012 06:46 PM

Baer minimum?

One of my favorite sites to surf and make imaginary shopping lists. They have some excellent carbon fiber bodywork for sale within the last two years.

I believe it's a standard Corvette size.

Alcon was indeed making some calipers for Baer several years back, and I believe it was their high end pieces only. I don't believe they are doing so anymore though.

BRAWL 12-04-2012 11:07 AM

This still looks pretty good and will be added to my short list when I come to upgrade my brakes.

The main point is cost shipped to Australia as we get reemed hard on anything over $1000 (thanks ATO!)

I'm going to wait for the Wilwood kit They will use iron hat rears so the E brake still works. I had thier brakes on my 383ci Monte Carlo S/S and worked just fine on open track days @ Firebird.

gmookher 12-04-2012 07:47 PM

what are you paying and where are you getting the wilwood? brakes are my next purchase, just did coilovers...
I'll be at firebird this weekend, with my m3! Member appreciation day, gets you to the track for $40 all day long. No transponders, but who cares. I miss the BRZ, but its well worth the wait.
