My thing living in Arizona is not so much the weight savings, but I have had, along with friends, is wet cell batteries leaking from the intense heat an acid blasting your engine bay. A dry cell is what I look for and have always used Optima red tops. never a single problem and they have lasted an average of 4 years in each of my cars in Az. That is West Valley Phoenix...already hit 112 last Friday Phoenix!

I would opt for the Braille battery as well. They have the 4-cylinder special-- an 11lb. battery for around $160. I saw one for 6lb. but i don't know how much i'd trust it; not to mention the cost was about $50 more.

I've used Braille batteries for a while. My first one was a 17 lb. It was OK at first but you can't forget to leave your lights on for more than 5 minutes or it will not give you enough cranking power to start the engine. I had to jump start it quite a few times - even asking a stranger for help once. In the winter it struggled a bit but never failed to start. And after about 2 years, it would barely hold a charge at all. So I replaced it with the 21 lb model which should have higher reserve capacity. It's fine so far but it seems to dim and whine more when you do two things at once. That could have to do with something else though...

So yeah, I'm not sure if I would use a lightweight battery for this car since I will be getting a touchscreen navigation system and would like to mess around with it a bit sometimes when the engine is off. But as someone else said, I don't like the idea of wet cell batteries. But the Optima's are even heavier than the wet cell batteries. So... I'll just stick with the stock battery until it dies and go from there.

I have used the Deka 15 pound battery in my WRX for more then 4 years. Everyday I listen to the radio for about an hour or more in my lunch break. The Deka has no messy acid leaks like a wet cell battery and 20 pounds lighter as a big bonus.

If your battery is too light will it throw off the handling?

For the Cayman R battery, it's centre mounted, so it doesn't really matter.

The battery is on the right along with the exhaust. So it's already heavier on that side if you don't have a passenger. It will likely improve the balance further (lowers CoG and lessens frontal weight).

Well, my lights are automatic and aren't ever on when the engine isn't running. I could also disconnect the negative every night or something to help it last. I have been doing that with my Celica(non-daily driver). I've used cheap lightweight batteries and also the porsche lithium battery on my GT3RS. So far, none of the cheap batteries are remotely close in terms of reliability compare to the porsche battery.

Anyone know the tech specs on the stock panasonic battery?
