LOL... haters *trying* to hate

LOL... wow, okay. So I encountered my first "haters" today while picking up lunch. (You'll see why I had to put quotation marks on that word here in a minute; when someone sucks at something so bad, you gotta qualify these labels).

Ran up to a local sandwich shop, got my food, and was sitting in my car futzing with the radio before backing out, when this black sedan pulls into the lot, and slowed down very abruptly behind me. (Layout of the parking lot was weird, so forgive my difficulty in describing the situation). He then proceeded ahead, to be able to turn into my section's side entrance. Well, I was already backed out, and headed over to where he came in... and he followed me. Honestly, I thought nothing of it, because if people aren't just naturally driving crazy here, then they are trying to get a look at my FR-S. No biggie.

So I turn out to the right, intending to go straight, and stop at the red light. My car: white FR-S rebadged with Toyota emblems. The black sedan (turns out it was an Audi of some kind) comes up by me on the left, in a lane with a left-turn arrow, and the passenger yells out as they go by, "How ya like driving your SUBARU?!!!"

LOL... you had to be there to hear how much vitriol and spite he was putting into this! I mean, this kid really thought he had the zinger of the century, and that somehow I'd be insulted, all flustered with indignation that he called my car a *gasp*... Subaru!!! Which, instead, just had me busting up laughing while waiting for the light to turn green. Not to mention the derisive effect was somewhat diminished by the fact that they were interested enough in my car to circle a parking lot and chase it back out the way they came. :D

Just thought I'd share that with y'all. Heh... maybe I can track them down sometime and ask how they like driving their Volkswagen.

I do too. That's what made it funny.

that zing just upped your car's value by over 1,000.

Thats like....
Insult:"Hey man, how do you like being awesome and likeable by all people?!"

Response: "uhhh....feels great man."

nbafandan 11-29-2012 08:51 PM

how is that even suppose to be a bad thing ... Subaru?
I woulda said thanks

Asphaltfrs1 11-29-2012 08:53 PM

I get you, like a little sarcastic smart ass remark. Haha
Maybe he should've yelled " how do you like driving that scion" since you swapped badges. Now that would've been a better zinger.
People will hate my friend.

lol... so far being part of the 86 family...

i think im caught somewhere in between a tug of war with my heart, one side loves subaru, one loves toyota. :D

I remember going to a all subaru tuning shop for my baseline pull, they were excited to see the car. They even gave me a free dyno pull!

This is a little off topic but this story got me thinking about rebadging(again). My front emblem would be Toyota, my steering wheel Scion and my rear emblem would be (surprise!)Subaru. That way every company gets credit. Any thoughts on this? Don't mean to threadjack you though TuxedoCartman.

I like this idea simply because you would trip out so many people lol

Guess he figured because you took the time and spent the money to rebadge it as a Toyota 86 that you would be be upset. Jokes on him.

SUB-FT86 11-29-2012 09:11 PM

I thought this was a real hate thread. This site is unpredictable!

ML 11-29-2012 09:11 PM

perhaps he only knew the car as a BRZ and thought since you rebadged it to a Toyota he needed to let you know in a sarcastic manner that he KNOWS you really have a Subaru not a Toyota.

dem00n 11-29-2012 09:17 PM

I keep thinking about buying a Toyota badge and a Subaru badge, cutting them both in half, gluing them together and putting them on the car.
Though they would have to be the same size pretty much.

Be an interesting convo piece. :bellyroll:
