PERRIN Silicone Intake Duct Review

I have just installed this on my FR-S, pic was taken before i tightened down all the way it may look a little off but the fit is perfect. It removes the noise generator and they include a cap where it goes in to the firewall. The cap is a lot more substantial than the one that comes with the Dynosty kit, i have both so i will post a comparison photo with the rest of the pics tonight. They will have other colors available i didn't get to choose but i actually like the blue.

I previously had a Cosworth air filter installed, Perrin pulley, Motiv Test Pipe, MXP exhaust, and FA20Club Stage 2 reflash. Adding this tube and the Perrin filter definitely has improved throttle response and has a little better sound too without that little resonator thats on the factory tube. The exhaust and intake have made a very nice difference in the performance of the car, i have the Motiv Overpipe coming tomorrow and with that and a new file from FA20Club i'm confident i'm going to be making some good power i will definitely try to get to a dyno soon. More pics and review to come this evening.

Nice, like the color too.

ngabdala 11-29-2012 12:36 PM

Joe it's beautiful and it keeps the sensor in the same location

I didn't get to pick the color this was provided for testing purposes, i would happily spend the money on it though i think this is the ideal setup that's available now.

Thanks, i have to say thanks to @PERRIN_Chris for this i inquired about it months ago and he messaged me the other day offering this part so i was very happy he contacted me and provided me this opportunity.

gmookher 11-29-2012 12:44 PM

perfect color!

post_break 11-29-2012 12:45 PM

No offense to you but that looks awful. Like a home made solution. I thought it was blue electrical tape wrapped around PVC at first. Hopefully the final one looks better.

ngabdala 11-29-2012 12:47 PM

I like the way it looks. Anyways , function over form brotha

Neziah 11-29-2012 01:00 PM

They usually have Red,Blue and Black for colors. So I would guess they will eventually be doing the same for this part.

JoeBoxer 11-29-2012 01:02 PM

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but i respectfully disagree, looks way better than stock and i'm very happy with it.

I also have the same item and some radiator hoses coming from No Limit Motorsport pretty soon so i will compare them when they come in, might get red or black on those since i have a red Tanabe strut bar coming in the future also.

6-Shift 11-29-2012 01:22 PM

Awesome! I've been looking at getting one of these and I was curious to see whether keeping the noise generator was worth it or not....It sounds like you get just as good of sound without it, so maybe it's time to clean up my engine bay a little!

I prefer it without the sound tube but this makes it even better.
stock < no sound tube < silicone tube and high flow filter

ML 11-29-2012 01:33 PM

That is the beauty of reinforced silicone tubing. ;)

Looks clean. I like it.

Jeff86 11-29-2012 02:41 PM

I like it too. Can always go black if the color is too much. I was surprised when the AVO ones didn't delete the noise generator. This looks good.

I only paid for the filter, this was offered to me to test after i had inquired about it a couple months ago.

ChaChas345 11-29-2012 09:52 PM

There is one picture, i just got home from work give me a few minutes.

Will resize and fix them shortly.

ChaChas345 11-29-2012 11:22 PM

Thats a very nice tube you got there. Any idea how much its going to cost? I saw the AVO/Zeta silicone tubes were around 150. Hope its around that much. Perrins CAI on the Sema car uses something like this doesnt it?

I plan to get the Syms Racing intake or the Max Racing duct and this along with a drop in filter would definitely enhance those 2 mods.

JoeBoxer 11-29-2012 11:34 PM

I think the AVO one is a little overpriced and it has the sound tube port i don't like. This one is very nice and i have another on the way from No Limit Motorsport, maybe Zeta would like to ship me one and i'll compare all 3? I would send it back when done with the test of course.

Superhatch 11-29-2012 11:39 PM

I've been looking for a place to put my Motul sticker! :)

Haha i wish i hadn't now, i would have put the Perrin one on there since i have their air filter in it.

wparsons 11-29-2012 11:57 PM

Is this piece the same on their full intake, or is it slightly different between the two models? I know the "full" intake replaces the snorkel and airbox, but this pipe looks similar enough that it could be shared.

The intake uses a metal tube, they are offering a "wrinkle" black finish which is usually only done on metal.

Zaneman 11-30-2012 12:47 AM

Perrin Chris why you no let me try ?

Areddi 11-30-2012 09:01 AM

This looks awesome, maintains all the stock necessities, but smooths out the airflow, gets rid of the noise generator, and looks great. Probably won't be too expensive either, so I am definitely looking forward to more information.

Chimpo 11-30-2012 09:07 AM

This intake tube, the drop-in air filter, and pulley would make an excellent little holiday pack to buy.... Perrin... are you listening.... group buy?

travace 11-30-2012 09:43 AM

I wonder what kind of hp gains you get from this... 3-5 hp if any at all right?

Spartan65 11-30-2012 09:55 AM

I like the way my HKS came out.

Probably not much that you will see on the dyno, maybe 2-3 but with all the exhaust work i've done i needed something to get the air in a little smoother. New tune file from increased air flow is where i'm hoping to get the power from.

That piece is the second piece that replaces the airbox and snorkel...

In this picture you can see the metal piece plus a silicone piece that looks A LOT like this part:

JoeBoxer 11-30-2012 11:46 AM

I see, so maybe down the road i can add that part and have a full intake. Very cool if so.

gmookher 11-30-2012 12:24 PM

I would have gone this route if I hadnt gone SC...

PERRIN_Chris 11-30-2012 01:43 PM

The PERRIN inlet hose is going to be around $200. When we sell it, it will be sold separately than the intake system, but we will probably have some kind of package so they could be purchased together.

wparsons 11-30-2012 03:42 PM

So the inlet hose (silicone piece?) is the same for stock airbox or the full intake? That's what I was hoping for.

naikaidriver 11-30-2012 04:02 PM

I am so glad this got posted before I ordered the Zeta unit!

Huge fan of Perrin and your products and I'm looking forward to ordering my cat-back next week!

The inlet hose, which is posted here, is going to be compatible with the factory intake box, so it can be done before or after an intake upgrade. Or done by itself.

JoeBoxer 11-30-2012 04:45 PM

How much will the rest of the intake be that i will need to complete it? I would like whatever version offers the most power, i have ecutek available for tuning.

LOL@that price! I guess for people who are first time buyers of anything of this type they would look at this and think it's reasonable but for the rest of us..holy!

And companies wonder why the aftermarket is so quick to copy a design and sell it for a quarter of what the 'manufacturer' is charging. I'd gladly buy a chinese made tube vs a $200 tube due to a name stencilled on it.

This part is being made for an economy $25k car not a highend european automobile..yet the pricing doesn't reflect it. I feel bad for all the sheep who end up paying $200+ for a mass produced silicone tube.

Yes, the preceeding has been all IMHO - take it as you want, hell go ahead and mislabel it "hate" if you choose to be that ignorant. I just think it's a joke a manufacturer is willing to charge so much for a part that literally costs dollars to make. (Yes, I know this doesn't account for R&D but seriously you think it's rocket science to remake an OEM piece out of silicone? lol@you) And yes, I have experience with offshore manufacturing and the costs associated hence why this thread has me SMH!:sigh:

I don't take offense to this at all and I assure you that I am not ignorant.

I am vain and don't mind spending extra money for a proven name in the business and the quality that comes along with that. That is why my closet has nothing but Kenneth Cole and D&G inside it. In that regard I, like many others, am a label whore and proud to be one at that.

Have fun in your Honda and your cheap, Chinese parts from eBay.
