I just found out about this car ...

I've had a series of mid 90s BMWs 318ti's for a while now, the process is pretty much the same every time. Gut the interior, a whole bunch of tweaks that bring the engine closer to about 200hp, a set of black BBS rims with a White paint job.

To most of my neighbors, it looks like I've had the same car for years but the formula for me is irresistible. The 318ti is lite, likes to play sideways and if you know how to play with a BMW engine, gives you all the rewards you'd ever need on a track day.

I've recently had a settlement due to a legal matter and went to talk to a friend in a local garage about maybe moving to something else, a bit more reliable, allot less of a headache to maintain, and 318tis are getting harder to find, they've been discontinued for a while

He brings up this car and I get curious ... contact my local Scion dealer, they explain that I can reserve the first car coming in, but that they have no real release date or firm pricing idea.

I'm looking for info as this is a cash deal, call Subaru, pretty much the same story, they don't really have specs or anything specific.

The Scion representative told me that here in Quebec ( all taxes in ) we should be looking for around 28 - 29K thousand which is in the ball park of the Genesis coupe at around 30K, the Mustang is around 26K but both these cars are heavier than what I'm looking for and to be honest, the reliability of both models scares me a bit.

For someone who doesn't know much about the FT-86, what are the main points of going for one instead of, lets say a used 2005 M3 ?

Any help is much appreciated

thanks a bunch

November 30th at the Tokyo Motorshow the official details on the car will be released. Chances are you'll be hearing a lot more about it then, so I'd recommend waiting on your quest for information since currently there's a lot of speculation in these forums since we don't know everything yet.

none of the numbers have been officially released, but in a nutshell:

around 200hp
around 2700lbs
price range possibly less than genesis coupe
compact, extremely low cog
looks great
toyota/subaru reliability

You must have the 1st official NA Brochure handed out!!

Is there more than you show? Specs?

Can you show the full frontal pic better?

That has the concept mirrors.

That's the brochure for the Scion FR-S concept car, which debuted this past April at the NYIAS - see http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1163

That is not the production car.

She wouldn't say much more than that, the guy running the Scion Stall seemed to be very hesitant in giving me dates, the IQ was due 3 months ago and isn't out yet, the TC looked pretty nice but FWD ...

I've had the opportunity to browse the website a bit, The MX-5 here in Quebec is about 35 000$ with taxes and is a 'crowd' favorite where I race as it seems a pretty decent balance of allot of stuff people want in a weekend racer. The Imprezza is about the same in WRX form, but Subarus are pigs to deal wth when it comes to gas and maintenance.

I went to check the Camaro while I'm doing all this as well ... what a POS, the FR-S is due here in June, Im probably going to take over a leasebuster 6 month lease to see what the car ends up being in the summer, it's due to arrive in Quebec in June.

I have to say, this got me pretty interested but I'm keeping my options open

Well the FR-S will have Subaru guts. So hopefully it wont be a pig to deal with when it comes to gas and maintenance.

And I have never had a problem with my WRX.
