What's wrong with my HID kit?
So I installed an HID kit yesterday and it seems like the the light is really scattered to the far ends. Looks like the driver's side beam heads way off to the left and the passenger side way off to the right, leaving an empty kind of V shape of not much light directly in front of me (where you'd want it). I put some pics below - You can see how the light in the center is kinda weak but the light off to each side is significantly brighter, also while the overall cutoff of light is at a decent height, it looks to me light the light beam is a little low too... I tried adjusting the height of the headlights (which had no issues with OEM bulbs) and it's not doing much.
Any suggestions on fixing this? http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...127_174939.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...127_175035.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...127_175327.jpg |

I didn't think HIDs were side specific anyway, but I tried it. |
Tech support available from the seller? I know nothing about HID replacements, but it looks like the light beams are crossing each other which would lead me to think that either the bulbs are too short or too long since the placement of the bulb in respect to the reflector is what focuses (or aims) where the light goes. Sumpthin ain't right.

never seen that before
its like your bulbs are sideways or something You should PM the LED/HID/Lighting vendors and ask them what they think |
Can you post a pic of the actual bulbs? Which vendor did you get them from?

i think you bought the wrong bulbs or they gave you the wrong bulbs. there are types of HID bulbs that do go side ways. i usually see them on fogs

2 people on other forums suggested the bulbs may be upside down. Which seems out to me as the only fit in the one way ya know? |

Yeah it looks like they're installed wrong. I vaguely recall someone else having a thread like this. Take them out and make sure the tabs are fitting into the appropriate slots in the headlight housing, and that you get a full turn in the housing.

DDMTuning.com
Have their 35w 5k kit in my MR2 and FRS. Almost three years old in the MR2 and zero problems. |
I've used DDM tuning, the kit for my FRS was great.. The kit for my moms new sportage would not work properly .. It would just flash for a bit then flicker... I swapped out my ballast with my moms kit worked flawless.. And my moms ballast work in my car.. So it's all good... Now if you want quality.. Go with "The retrofit source" I bought the retrofit mini h1 kit and its night and day difference from the stock projectors... Some things just need to pay more for the quality

another possibility is that the lamps just need to be adjusted. the manual for our car is somewhere on the forum and in it explains how to adjust your headlights. when i installed my hid kit the beam i got was much higher than with my stock bulbs so i had to adjust the lamps to point them lower/closer to where the factory line was. it's pretty straightforward to do since all you need is a flat head. find the little gears on the headlights and start turning them in a particular direction until you get them where you want. i believe each light should have two gears. one for vertical and one for horizontal. it's at least worth looking into. maybe it got turned all crazy in the factory?
edit: unless that's what you meant by you tried to adjust them. sorry i reread your post and saw that you did try to adjust. *shrug* |
